Yet I feel sure that when speak the thdh it will not be In vain. How often," yea too often, do we hear the words, "Come, let Tus take a glass of something on that. Only a glass of wincj not the least harm." The serpent i begnilded live with his gilded. Is not there a serpent beneath these words? I ask you, young man, who perhaps too often have responded to their enticing, before you, go in to mix the fatal glass, first ask yourself the question, Is It You were brought up doubtless by pious parents who taught you to say 'lead us 7 not into temptation, but deliver us from evil," and whose parting injunction was, "My son if Bhihers entice" thee consent thou not." You have laid them in the grave and their, memory is sacred. Consider then.

Were they here to-night, would they say it was right for their boy to Hi-ten to the enticing words of your com panions and cast your lotryour life, your all, rudderless and a compass, upon the sea of intemperance. For to such the first glass 4 is the entrance. It may appear -calm and aUuring to. your imagination-'only a glass of wine, no harm" but there are hidden rocks. Then is it right Why embark on an un certain sea that ha3 wrecked so many noble Why acquire a taste for poison which will ultimately drown you? Abstain from the first glass and you are your own man, take.it and you are sold to it unless rescued by a powerful will.

The Experience op an Oxford Youth Going Home With Sally One bright moonlight night an Oxford youth (we withhold the name) chanced to attend a meeting of the "Mu sical Club," the exact place of which is not now. necessary to mention. there however, his eyes fell on a "fairy form," that immediately set his suscepti ble heart in a blaze, She was sixteen or thereabout, with bright eyes, red cheeks and cherry lips, while the auburn ringlets clustered in a wreath of profusion around her beautiful head and her, person, to his ravished unmaffination, was more perfect in form and outline than the most faultless statue ever chiseled by the sculptor's art. As he gazed, his feelings, which never before aspired girlward were fully and he determined to go home with Sally Jane that night perish in the attempt. As soon therefore, as the Club was dismissed, and she was suitably bonneted he approached to offer his services as contemplated, and he then learned an important lesson, viz: the difference between resolving and doing.

As he neared her to put his resolution into execution, his heart thumped with apparently' as much force as if it were driving ten-penny nails Into his ribs in the meantime having reached Sally's tide, managed to mumble over something Which is perhaps known to the recording angel I but surely is hot to I Well, ho walked on pleasantly toward Sally a home, conversing very sweetly as he passed along.
