L. Hargrove. Nominee of the Rads for Attorney- General. From a speech delivered in Oxford July 1st. An Apology.

We offer an apology to our readers for the frequent occurrence of typo graphical errors in our agricultural columns. Maj. Gregory the editor of that department who lives some distance from Oxford has not the op portunity to read the proof of the matter furnished by him and hence many errors which he would correct are passed unobserved by our proof reader. The Major very justly complains of these errors and we make this notice of it to exempt him from all responsibility for them, and to promise that we will endeavor to prevent their re-currence in. the future.

Keep it before the poeple, that B. Vance, while Governor, was guilty of the atrocious crime of sending sixteen year old boys to the battle held. Many ot these promising youths the seed corn of the country the hope of fond mothers and the pride of loving sisters died from cold in the trenches. Radical Con stitution. Oh yes Ike Young says "the Radicals must lie like hell this campaign or else they will be beaten." Dr.

STOVALL, President W. H. Gregory, Sect'y. Colored Democrats. We are pleased to see that, promi nent colored men in' different parts of the Srite are declaring for Tilden and Vance.

They are becoming tired of the empty promises of their republican task masters and over seers, and in some instances are pub lishing their reasons for abandoning the republican party. The time was when a colored man voted the democratic ticket only at the risk of his life. But that time has pased away never to return again. They are opening their eyes "slowly it is true but very surely neverthe less, to the reality of their situation, and many of them are determined to be deceived no longer. nnhlish todav'the letter of 1 Alex Herndon a colored man of Durham to the Durham Tobacco Plant to which we respectfully call attention.

We invite our colored friends of Granville county who entertain sim ilar views to make them known. We would be glad to publish them. Let us hear from you P. S. Since the above was written we have seen in the Raleigh News a long letter from Rev.

Garland H. White of the Tilden and Hendricks Colored Club of the town of Halifax. We have not room for this let ter this week but will try to publish it in our next. It is well written and will be especially interesting to our colored readers. Good Again.

4, '76 Mr. Editor. I have just now heard that it is, currently reported in Dur ham that some time recently, called and held an anti-Vance meeting at this place. Now this is obliged a- I- iu ue me wont 01 some designing rZitxd of the Conservative voters of Gran ville county, held in Oxford on the 29th, of May, I was chosen as one of the delegates to represent Granville in the State and District nominating conventions. Now it so happened 3 that my! professional en prevented my attending these ventions.) But I declared publicly ana repeatedly tnat Vance was my first choice in the State for Governor, and rejoiced and manifested my joy iri loud hurrahs for Vance when our; delegates returned fat me and made known the fact that Vance was chosen to bear our colors, for I then felt sure, as I now do, that he would plant them on the ramparts of the enemy and a glorious victory would besachieved by the long sufler-H ing Democratic party of North Carolina.

Fellow citizens I am for the ticket and be it undeistood that my right of franchise shall always be ex ercised against the man who is not for the ticket. Very Respectfully, S. D. Booth. Durham, N.

C. Aug. 5, 1876. Mr. Editor.

I have voted the Republican ticket for years and I am now fully convinced of the fact that Radicals are my worst enemies, noiwunsianaing ineir Kina words for the colored man when election time comes. BUSBEE. Electors far the State at Large. HON. DANIEL G. FOWLE.

HON. JAMES M. LEACH. From the Democratic State Platform. Resolved, that we earnestly and cordially recommend the adoption by the people of the amendments to the Constitution proposed by the convention of 1875 thus largely reduce the expenditure of our State and county governments and simplify their administration, so that we may be enabled to establish a thorough and enlarged system of public schoolsfor the benefit of all the citizens of the State.

THE CAMPAIGN. The news from Gov. Vance and the canvass in the west is more and more cheering and there is now but little doubt if the middle and eastern counties do their whole duty, but that the Derribcratic ticket will not only carry the State but will carry it uy an overwhelming majority. A letter from Gov. Vance to a gentleman in this place, states that he will probably visit Granville about'thelast of September, which is some earlier than he at first expected.

We are glad to know this. We would be still better pleased if he could come earlier. Our Granville Democrats are not yet stirred to that degree of enthusiasm which is necessary to the putting forth of their whole strength. The west is all aflame for Vance and Jarvis. In some of the counties the county tickets are already at work.

Everywhere Tilden and Vance clubs springing up. The party is working with renewed hope and energy in prospect of the glorious victory that awaits its labors in November. We believe that no time should be lost in putting our county ticket in the field. Nothing is to be gained by delay. The battle we have to fight must be fought in an open field.

There need be no diplomacy and no strategy. We must choose our leaders and then mass our strength around them. All the advantage Is on our side if we have only the wisdom and the energy to use it. The enemy is evidently demoralized and we have only to break the ower of Grant's corps of officeholders to make their disaster complete and to sweep the -State with a perfect Waterloo victory. Has a club been organized in your township If net, why not Are you idle and do you intend to remain idle Is the prize not worth an ef fort on your part Are you satisfied with Grantism and all its trairi6f abuses and corruption in the National Government Are you pleased with the administration r- of your 5a S.
