(UPI) Pilot Gerald Dumas of North Syracuse encountered battery trouble at Hancock Airport Sunday, so got out to try to start his single-engine Piper Commanche from outside. The plane began to move forward. Dumas grabbed the wing to try to steer it away from some nearby planes— without success. The pilotless plane took off across the runway, smashed into two parked planes, tearing the wings off of one, and caused an estimated $40,000 in damage, airport authorities said. A lone woman passenger, Lois Brichard of Montrose, Pa., who was riding in the cockpit, escaped injury.
