Spiritualist Convention Several local Spiritualists attended the state convention in Hartford Saturday At the former session Albert A Gustine of Meriden was elected president for another term Other officers are: Vice-president Mrs Spaulding of Norwich and Mrs Lamberton of Poquon-oek secretary and treasurer Mis Dillon of Hartford Mis Dillon i said she had served the association as secretary for eight years and she wished to be relieved from the responsibilities of the office but the association would not accept her declination and Mrs Dillon was prevailed upon to accept the positions of secretary and treasurer for another term Trustee George Cooley Dumont Kingsley and Edmund Brewer of East Hartford gates to the national convention: George Burnham of Wiiiimantic and Mrs Stores of Hartford: alternates Stores and Mrs Spaulding President Gustine for the committee on the revision of the constitution made a report of a new constitution which was amended and adopted The new constitution declares that the object of the state organisation is to bring about the fraternization of the Spiritualists of Connecticut and to promulyatc the phlt-osophy of spiritualkin Mr GusUne in speaking on the subject of the admission of members to the association said he would never vote to admit Francis Truth to membership Mrs Dillon the secretary and treasurer read her annual report Since the last convention she received including a balance on hand of $8219 the sum of $33755 The expenditures for the year amounted to $26734 leaving a balance on hand of $7021 Mrs report was received THE WEEK IN CONGRESS Matters That Will Occupy Attention of Statesmen Washington May The attention ot the house this week will be occupied with various miscellaneous matters except such time as may la-devoted to the eonaideruiion of conference report on appropriation bills which will be given the light of way The desire for an adjournment early in June makes it absolutely necessary to expedite the supply bills The most important piece of general lcg'slntion to be acted upot during the week will be the amended senate bill to amend the general pension laws This bill was amended at the request of prominent A officials and is known as the A bill TTi principal changes it purposes in existing law arc provision for aggregating disabilities and equalizing ratings and to increase the limit of the income of widows jH-nsionable under the vet of 1890 to $250 This bill will be placed on ite passage tomorrow The bill militia be called up under suspension of tho rules Tuesday under an order made on Friday ill be given too the committee on claims and Friday to war claims It is not improbable that the contested election of Pearson Crawford from the tenth North Carolina district may he called up Wednesday or Thursday- Washington May Routine business probably will occupy the greater part of the attention during the present week The resnltu tion offered by Mr Teller expressing sympathy for the Boers and deairo that the government extend to both Great Britain and the Squth African republics its friendly offices in bringing the present war to a close will be called up tomorrow It is the Intention of the Colorado senator to press hi resolution to an early vote It probably will bo referred to the committee on foreign re-1 at ions but Mr Toller will insist that it lie reported in some
