represented Meaiden in the Ugpeiatwm oil 1859 1862 tutt a i from Bilvpr coinage problem currency among business men That interest and penalties on judgment lands sold for taxes etc be reduced to 0 per cent That a state bankrupt law bo enacted The silver coinage problem lie dwelt on at great length asserting that the right of congress to coin money is conceded and that right is exclusive so long as the right is exercised This right was given to the general government by the states as a this trust calling for continuous coinage In default of the exercise of the coinage right the trust reverts to the states) or the people By the passing of the enactments putting on end to the free coinage of silver the general government defaulted in its trust Competent legal authority holds that the right of the people to the free coinage of silver has never been taken away The extra session of the legislature should take action to compel an adjudication by the United Stales supreme court of this question He held that the right of a state to make gold and silver coin the tender in payment of all debts collectible within that state cannot he denied The remedy is for each state to enact that the silver dollars of the United States and of our sister republics in North and South America containing not less than 371 1-4 grains fine silver shall lie a legal tender for nil debts public and private collectible within that sta'e In concluding he said: we lead off in this manner Colorado will have plenty of good eomixmy in those western and southern states now ruined by the present financial system These states adopting our plan will soon compel its adoption by the national government that will compel Great Britain also to remono-tize silver and go to the devil as thanks to Almighty God
