The Banner-Press David City May 7 1987 Page9B Aquinas boys and EB girls place third at Lakeview The Aquinas boys track team and the East Butler girls track team each took third place at the Lakeview Invitational track meet last Thursday The Monarchs trailed Grand Island Central Catholic and Central City They scored major points with two firsts in field events Mark Kirby in the triple jump and Rick Hilger in the long jump Seconds were credited to Todd Wendt in the discus Hilger in the triple jump Tom Hoeft who tied for second in the pole vault Dave Stara second in the 120-yard high hurdles and Mark Kirby second xin the 220-yard dash The East Butler Tigers were led by Marty Hotovy with a fourth place finish in the 440-yard dash Scout Coach Tony Wienandt pointed to the third place finish of the Scout 400 meter relay team as one of the highlights for his squad The quartet of Brett Montag Kurt Schaecher Tony Jelinek and Mike Heins set a school record of :466 breaking a previous mark set in 1985 Mike Heins also earned three medals for the Scouts in the 100 and 200 meter dash events and as a member of the 400 meter relay team Eighteen of the performances by the Scouts were season bests Weinandt said Receiving pats on the back for continued improvement were Brett Montag and Mick Kozisek in the hurdles and Pat Misek in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs In the girls division the Lady Tigers trailed Scotus Central and Central City They had first place finishes by Vickie Kocian in the 440-yard dash and the 220-yard dash Tracey Woita in the 100-meter dash the 440-yard relay team and the mile relay team the latter setting a new meet mark The Aquinas two-mile relay team set a meet record of 10:041 breaking its 1986 record of 10:053 Top performance by the Lady Scouts came in the discus placed first in the 100-yard dash 880-yard run 220-yard dash 440-yard run and the 440 and 1600-yard relays Toni Weverka won the 100 and was a member of both first place relay teams Michele Kocian took the 880 and teamed up with Weverka Lynne Kudlacek and Vickie Kocian to win the 1600-yard relay in 4:398 Vickie Kocian claimed her second and third first place medals of the meet with the top honors in shots off the pace for second place in the varsity match Darin Kotil again led the Scouts with an 83 good enough for third place among fhe top 15 golfers Teammate Mike Lange was in fourth place as he turned in an 85 Chris Butler shot an 88 to finish in eighth place Kurt Kuhlman added a 93 and Dean DeWispelare shot a 97 The reserves shot a 408 for the win They were followed by 410 Rick Kovar led the Scouts with a 94 He was the second place golfer Chad Townsend turned in a 100 for fourth place and Randy Theewen had a 102 for eighth place Chris Hutchinson and Jason Lawrence shot 112 and 113 respectively 286000 OVER 60 In 1980 when the last Census was taken there were 273000 people aged 60 or older in Nebraska In 1987 it is estimated that number has increased to 286000.
