3, of Miss Susan Birkel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred F. Birkel of David City, and Ellis J. Freitag, son of Mrs.

G. H. Freitag and the late Mr. Freitag of Houston. Miss Rebecca Birkel of Muncie, niece and goddaughter of the bride, served as maid of honor.

Gregory Freitag, brother of the groom, was best man. Father Joseph Konkel, of the University of Houston, performed the marriage ceremony. Following the wedding, a reception was held at the Willowisp Country Club. Attending the wedding from out of town were Mr. and Mrs.

Alfred Birkel and Stanley Coufal RE EU LADIES AID The Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid met Thursday, Sept. 14, with 23 members and Pastor Schornack present. Mrs. Kenneth Jens was hostess. Mrs.

Rod Smith had charge of devotions on education. Mrs. Tom Barlean, president, conducted the business meeting. The various committees gave their monthly reports. Mrs.

Reinhold Schroeder was elected vice-president and Mrs. Rod Smith secretary. They will take office in January. Mrs. Eugene Glock gave a report on taking the items to Macy, which were collected and made during the last sewing project.

A letter was read from the Lutheran Medical Center Gift Gayla committee. Another Gift Gayla will be held Nov. 6 and any donations of hand made items would be appreciated. An invitation was extended to the ladies to attend the annual Lutheran Family Service Ladies Day on Sept. 21 at Trinity Lutheran Church at Lincoln.

It was announced the Lutheran World Relief will have a collection sometime this fall. The semi-annual birthday party on Oct. 19. will be a no-hostess meeting, Mrs. Jonas Schroeder will have the devotions.

The following officers were elected: Lynn Lauterbach, president; Kent Grotelueschen, vice-president; Charlotte Peterson, secretary; Nancy Whitmore, treasurer; Brenda Lauterbach, reporter; and Dale Lauterbach, song leader, Mrs. Larry Whitmore is club leader and Mrs. Louis Brecka and Miss Amy Peterson are assistant leaders.

Members decided on their projects for the coming year. Games were played and lunch was served by Mrs. Whitmore. 90th BIRTHDAY A family gathering was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Les Hilger Friday evening, Sept. 15, honoring her father, Leo Hanus, of St. Joseph's Villa, on his 90th birthday. Present were all his children, Messrs. and Mmes.

576, Catholie Daughters of America, held at the K. C. Hall Tuesday, Sept. 12. Regent Mrs.

Nicholas Klein presided. members' were, urged to take part in the court membership drive. Names of prospective members should be given to the Regent. A committee of Mmes. James Redler, Gerald Menke, and Harlen Lyons was appointed to finalize plans for National Catholic Daughters Day.

Tentative plans are for the court to: attend Mass and Communion in a body followed by a breakfast. Involvement reports were given by Mmes. Ben Homan, Marvin Mohler, Virgil Vrbka, Ted Rutten, Victor Novacek, Josephine Sloup, and Nicholas Klein. A letter from State Regent Imelda Nolan announced the appointments of Rev. Charles Swanson of Omaha as State Chaplain, Miss Anne Birkel as District Deputy for the Wahoo, Humphrey, and Columbus courts, Mrs.

Nicholas Klein as Leadership chairman for the Lincoln Diocese, and Mrs. Virgil Vrbka as State Public Relations Chairman. The Court was cited at National Convention for its Leadership Training Program. A tape made by members Mrs. John Dehner and Mrs.

Richard Rerucha was used at the State Regent's Workshop. The committee for the games party at St. Joseph's Villa on NEBRASKA EXPANDED NUTRITION PROGRAM aides from across Nebraska gathered in Lincoln September 13 for the semi- annual Cooperative Extension Service Nutrition Aide Conference. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Marvin Mohler and Mrs. Robert Kreizinger. LUTHERAN WOMEN'S GUILD The Redeemer Lutheran Women's Guild met at the church basement with nine members and one guest, Mrs. Wayne Lukert, and Pastor Schornak present for the first meeting of the fall season.

Mrs. Lukert gave a report on the Bloodmobile. A discussion was held on a letter re-read by Mrs. Gerald Kroft from a lady in Nigeria. Mrs.

Kroft related the L.W.M.L. Rally at St. John's in Seward is to be held Oct. 10, beginning at 10 a.m. The speaker is to be from the Lutheran Medical Center.

Mrs. Buford Wrede reported the Lutheran Family Service is to hold a meeting at Trinity Lutheran in Lincoln located at 12th and on Sept. 21. Anyone wishing to go may go with her. Mrs.

Blevins suggested the group have a "get acquainted" dinner with the new members. It was suggested that the Pastor decide on the date and to announce it in the bulletin, A discussion was held on the timely subject, "'Where is Joy given by the pastor. Mrs. Gene Fyfe was hostess. The Oct.

Ohlinger announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Patricia Ann Ohlinger, to Craig Allen, Burroughs of Shawnee Mission, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Burroughs of Waterloo, la. The couple has chosen Dec. 9 as their wedding date.

Miss Ohlinger earned a nursing degree from the University of Kansas. She is currently working at Archbishop Bergan Mercy Hospital, Omaha. Mr. Burroughs, a graduate of Iowa State, and a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity, is an engineer for Owens-Corning, Kansas City, Kans. HINZE FAMILY REUNION The annual Hinze family reunion was held Sunday, Sept.

10, in the 4-H building at the Seward Park. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Hinze of Rising City and Mr. and Mrs.

Floyd Hinze of York were in charge of arrangements. The following were in attendance: Messrs. and Mmes. Imig local golfers and overall. Flower Arranging Workshop Slated Next Monday Do you have natural talent for arranging flowers? Or do you wonder how you could make your flowers last longer? During September the Home Extension Clubs and other interested organizations in this area will be studying Flower Arranging Applying principles of design in arranging flowers for the various places and occasions in the home, conditioning flowers for longer. lasting beauty, selecting proper tools and equipment are just some of the topics to be discussed. Training for the Home Extension Club leaders and others in the lesson "Flower Arranging" will be held at the Cengas basement in Columbus 'at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 25, and in. Humphrey at the City Hall Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 9:30 a.m. Any organized club group may send leaders to the training.

DWIGHT HOMESCHOOL ASSOCIATION The Dwight Home-School Association met Thursday evening, Sept. 14, at the Parish Hall with Rev. Harold Birkel, School Superintendent, opening -the meeting with a prayer. Other faculty present included Sr. Alma, Principal, Sister Mariette, Mrs.

Lillian Patak, and Mrs. Joan Peterzelka. Mrs. Richard Hottovy and Mrs. Raymond Krenk are in charge of the hot lunch program.

The new Home-School officers for the present school term include Irvin Cidlik. president and who was in charge of the meeting; Joe Prochaska, vice Mrs. Valerian Sypal, secretary; and Mrs. Charles D. Hottovy, treasurer.

Father Birkel stressed the importance of Catholic education and urged members to participate actively in Catholic Education Week which will be observed Sept. 17-22. He also asked members to attend the -Marian Day of Peace to be held in Lincoln on Oct. 8 with Archbishop Sheen of New York as the keynote speaker. Sister Alma announced that Oct.

12 and 13 will be the Teacher's Institute; Nov. 3, Parent Teacher Conferences; and no on Dec. 8, Feast of the Immaculate Conception. She invited the parents to visit the school during Catholic Education Week, and asked them to write our Congressmen regarding CREDIT which means Citizens Relief for Education by Income Tax. Mrs.

Val Sypal read an article on the "History of Assumption School" on which she and Mrs. Eleanor Novak made a research study. Irvin Cidlik will check with the Seward Roller Skating Rink about a monthly school skating party. During the social hour lunch was served by Mmes. Irvin Cidlik, Prochaska, Val Sypal, and' Charles D.

Hottovy. YOUTH BAPTIZED Terry Ray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Kriz, was baptized Wednesday evening, Sept. '13, during mass at St.

Mary's Church with Father Paul York officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Jean Kriz of Lipcoln were godparents. A supper in honor of the occasion was held in the Kriz home with sponsors and relatives as guests.

MISSION CIRCLE Eight members of the Mission Circle met Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Baptist Church. Mrs. Esther Browning led the devotions. Hostesses were Mrs.

Chester Dollison and Mrs. Irvin Ostrander. The next meeting will be Oct. 10. MARIETTES 4-H CLUB The Saturday, Sept. 9, meeting of the Mariettes 4-H Club was held at Marietta Hall. The Butler County Fair was discussed and record books were completed. A demonstration on nature plaques was given by Carla Meysenburg. Each member brought some kind of bar or cookie which were served for lunch.

Dick Reid was hostess to ten members. Mrs. Leo McGowen arranged the program and two films were shown by Sheriff Leo Meister. Constitution Week is being observed Sept. 17 through the 21st.

Mrs. Ray Sabata and Mrs. Elvin Thomassen arranged the window display in the Cengas office. The Good Citizen contest will be held again this year and the Chapter will ask students in the four county high schools to participate. EAST BUTLER FHA The East Butler Future Homemakers of America Chapter held their first meeting of the 1972-73 school year Tuesday, Sept.

12, with 49 members present. President Joyce Hottovy gave a report to acquaint the new members with FHA. She also read a list of activities planned for this year. Some of these include a soup supper in October, a caroling party in December, a Valentine Ball and a tour of Omaha in March. The next meeting will be October 10.

The bride attended the University of Nebraska and was graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. The groom is a graduate of the Houston Police Academy and currently attends the University of Houston. After a wedding trip to Mexico, the couple is at home at 2418 Southgate in Houston. Contest Date Changed The District III directors of the Make It Yourself With Wool have just announced that there a change the place of the contest, The contest will be held at Dana College, Blair, Saturday, Nov. 25.

11. UNION EXTENSION CLUB Union Extension Club met in the Garrison Fire Hall Thursday, Sept. 14, with Joann Schroeder hostess for the first meeting of the fall season. The president Evilene Daro, conducted the business meeting. Roll call' was answered with "What We Enjoyed at the Fair." Thirteen members were present.

The Club welcomed Beverly Clymer as a new member. Officers were elected as follows: Wanda Dallegge, presiGladys Hartman, vicepresident; Mary Ann Moravec, secretary; Lucy Fuxa, treasurMeister and Ada Marquis are the nominating committee members. The annual Achievement Day October 11th was announced. The event will be held in the K. C.

Dale Onnen of rural David City announce the engagement of their daughter, Cindy, to Wayne Divis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest. Divis of David City: The bride -elect is attending the Columbus Beauty College. The future groom is an employee of the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company, Both are 1971 graduates of the David City High School.

A Nov. 18 wedding date at Zion Lutheran Church, Garrison, has been chosen by the couple. SARGENTS VACATION IN NORTHWEST Mr. and Mrs. Glen R.

Sargent returned Thursday evening, Sept. 14, from a three-week visit and tour of the northwestern states. They traveled approximately 4000 miles. They toured the Black Hills and Yellowstone Park and then traveled on to Boulder, where they spent two weeks. They visited, Butte, the capitol building at Helena and a famous Russell Art Museum.

At Seattle they spent three days with their son-in-law and daughter, Dick and Betty Rerucha and family. On their way home they visited Mrs. Sargent's sisters and families at Salem, the Ralph Scheidels and Don Pieters, who lived here many years ago. Phone your news to 367-3054.
