early today in Appalachian Mrs Rhodes was 85 at the time of her death She had been living the home of her son Alan Rhodes and had been ill for some time' before her death She was born in New York the daughter of Lucius and Mary Davison Corresponded Two Years May Davison married the Western author in August 1899 in New York following two years in which the pair wrote to each other before meeting in June 1899 She came to Mr Rhodes New Mexican ranch in the San Andres mountains northwest of Alamogordo and remained there for two years before returning to the East where Mr Rhodes joined her in 1906 In 1826 the couple returned to the West where Mr Rhodes died in 1934 He is buried at the head of Rhodes Canyon in the San Andres mountains in a 10-acre plot of land part of his former ranch which he sold and which was deeded bade to him by Rancher Threadgill Two Sons Survive The couple had two children Alan born in 1901 and Barbara who died shortly after birth Mrs Rhodes had two sons Jack and Fred by a previous marriage both of whom assumed the Rhodes same Both survive their mother Mrs Rhodes was the author of The Hired Man on Horseback published in 1938 which described her husband's life
