involved in the anti-liquor crusade was tried before tbo circuit court of Hillsboro Ohio on the 19th Hillsboro is the starting point of tho crusade and in the case referred to the praying women had ereotod a canvas booth in tho street opposite a saloon kept by a man named Dunn from which they directed their devotions against bis saioqA Dunn appliod for and obtained temporary7 injunction against these proceedings but upon the subsequent trial of the case on a motion to dissolve the court granted tbo motion and dissolved tho injunction on the ground thal none of the plaintiffs rights of prop erty were infringed There was no denying chat the praying and singing of tho crusading toraon had the effect of destroying tho business but it did this only through its moral influence on tho community The crusadors did not obstruct tho entrance to his saloon nor forcibly7 prevent his customers irom entering and drinking Their praying annoyed him but it was a moral annoyance it was not such an annoyance as constituted a nuis-anco in tho eye of the law and tho ascmbling of the women might bo construed to come within tho bill of rights which guarantees the privilege of assembling and consulting on measures for the public good There was no malico in the oft'orts ol the crusadevs there was no trespass for they did not enter the saloon there was no infringement of his rights of person or property and there was nothing erected that the law regarded as a nuisance Ileneo the court dissolved the injunction and loft tho plaintiff at the mercy of tho prayers ol tho defendants Tlx The 7lciM( the Senate and House of Representatives I have tho honor herewith to submit a report of tho Centennial Commissioners and add a word in the way of recommendation There have now been international expositions held by throe of the great powers of Europe It seems fitting tbat tho one hundredth anniversary of onr independence should be marked by an ovent that will display to the world the growth and progress of a nation devoted to freedom and the pursuit of fame fortune and honor by the lowest citizen as well as the highest A failure in this enterprise would be deplorable Success can be assured by arousing publio opinion to lbs importance of the occasion To secure this end in my judgment Congressional legislation is necessary to make the Exposition both national and international The bonefit to be derived from an International Exposition are manifold It will necessarily be accompanied by expenses boyond the receipts from tho Exposition itself but they will bo compensated for many foid by7 commingling of people from all sections of our own country by bringing together people of different nationalities by bringing into juxtaposition for ready examination our own and foreign skill and prog-gress in manufactures agriculture art scionce and civil station The selection of a site for the Exposition seems to me appropriate from the fact that one hundred years before the date fixed for the Exposition tho Declaration of Independence which launched us into the galaxy of nations as an' independent peo emanatod from the same spot Wo have much in varied climate soil mineral products and skill of which advantage can be taken by other nationalities to their profit In return they will bring to our shores works of their skill and familiarize our people with them to the mutual advantage of all parties Let us make a complete success of our Centennial Exposition or suppress it in its infancy and acknowledge our inability to give it the international character to which ourself esteem aspires (Signed) Grant Executive Mansion Feb 25 1861 Freight Unite We recoived a day7 or two ago a case of paper from St Louis and about tho samo time a case of paper from Chicago Tho former came by the Missouri Pacific and tho lat ter by the Chicago Rock Island Paoifio Road The goods wero of tho same character and tho cases were of tho same woight Tho distance to Chicago is 538 miles to St Louis 334 miles a difference of 204 miles in favor of St Louis Yet tho freight charges were the same in both cases namely 35 cts per hundred Tho Chicago case was shipped on tbo 21st inst and that from St Louis on the 24th Both got through in good season It seems to us that freights from St Louis ought to be at least one-fourth les6 than from Chicago as the distance is one-third less Will some of our railroad men explain how this is? It seems to us that our lines to St Louis ought to and establish rates in proportion to tho distance they transport Champion In a remarkable sermon recently preached in St Church Pimlico the preacher proposed to consider the reason why sinners were croated The reverend gentleman attributed the creation of evil to God who he said bad pot sinners into the world as dark shades are put into a picture (mraciln The following nrticle bj Hon John Hart ol Liberty precinot is worthj careful perusal bj' all candid persona Mr Hurt believes in both inflation of the currency and a protective tariff Your attention in now invited to his article Will onr public men and writers just come out boldly and tell the citizens of this county that it is not the stook brokers and gold dealers who avo the ones that make gold worth a premium above the lawful paper money in circulation Let us dispassionately and reasonably dissect the subject Now in my mind 1 should say the excessive utility of gold over paper is what gives it the premium over paper money First one law makes a specific amount of gold represent a certain amount of money Now all governments do the same and while other governments and their subjects take our gold at a certain value as other goods rocoin it into gold under their own stamp they do not take our paper money and ro print it into money of their doeign Now the excossivo utility of gold over paper money in our country is thus our gold can be shipped o-tbor countries to puj- for merchandise and produots lhal we buy from them unless we ship merchandise and produce from our country in equal valuo to the amount we purchase of them and we must pay the balance in gold -Now our national financiers have seemed to want to pander to the wills of European capitalists and American ignorance If they would just shield the dealers of gold of the one sin they do not commit that of being the cause of gold being at a premium and tell the American people that every inan that uses any article of foreign product that could be produced in our country is helping to keep up premium on gold and not the stock brokers and gamblers of Wall street If the American people would adopt as an American principle that they would not purchase a worth of merchandise from any country that they could not pay for in some kind of American product there would be no more premium on gold unless foreign holders of American securities should throw their securities upon our markets and sell them for gold -rind then export Ih'o gold out from mr country so tho government could not obtain gold to pay tho interest upon the National Debt I have often thought that American Statesmen of the present age wore moral cowards for not pre renting the financial facta to tho people then at other times I have thought that they are political knaves and that some few did not have knowledge of political economy sufficient to be knaves Our Republican statesmen have feared the low tarifl element of the liepub lican party and the plausible argu men of the free trade Democrats but 1 think the day is dawning when bo Democratic masses of our citizens will prove themselves as good Americans and patriots as any men in our oountr- then Democratic demagogues will lose their forte of crying Eastern Monopolies in manufactories and tho open honest Lenioorats and Republicans that love their country will unite together and put a tariff on imports that will keep our gold in our country the utility of gold over paper then gold will coaso to be a of exchange and will return to the channels ol commerce as a medium of exohange as it was before the war ijst let the American people demand inflation to a sufficient amount to give more money to be invested in commerce mid produce the merchandise that wo aro now paying other countries for and a tariff sufficient to prevent vhe importation of goods in excess of the amount we export then jou will hear ol no more premium on gold The production of bullion trora our mines would bo coined and remain in our own country and if the annual mineral product of bullion for ten years in the future would equal that of the past ten years we would tlieh have upward of eight hundred millions of specio in our country and tho auxiliary of opaper money such as we now have would have the etfoct of assisting in carrying on the various branches of industry and commerce of the The inflation of tho paper circulating medium of the would reduce tho interest on money lor legitimate investments and pro vide American capital to develop American enterprises and retain their profit in our country instead of inviting in foreign capitalists to take the cream of profit from American enterprises The addition of 8500000000 to tho paper circulating medium of the country would put up American manufactories to compete with those wo now have and produce the goods we now export gold to pay for build railroads that otherwise foreign capitalists might build and thus draw annually the profits from our country it would stimulate the production of agricultural products and give greater stability uwalues Put a stop to the sudden fluctuations of values and the gold stook and grain corners would become things of the past In every generation and age the human mind has solved problems and decided questions that had before been lightly touched upon or reversed tho decision of former ages And while our forefathers only finished the extension of liberties that tber English ancestry had first wrested from the powers of Monarchy they entirely broke down the barriers of nobility and aristocracj7 which drew undue tributes from the yeomanry of the land yet they failed to eradioate slavery but their posterity did One question more now looms up in the political horizon to be acted upon aDd that question is while as Americans bare been freed from WARD CO NEW PRICES! si IOORS SASH BLINDS MOULDINGS LIME HAIR CEMENT Nebraska DEALER IN Sale NOTICE is
