The Easy Games Are the Toughest Ones for Coach tough one out, like at Syracuse, last week, directing the Bobcats attack at quarterback.

The Canton, Ohio, senior gave the Penn State line fits with his keeper prays and sweep runs. He gained 62 yards rushing. But because of a stiff Nittany Lion blitz, Bryant couldn't throw the long pass, which the Bobcats have often used this season. Instead he reverted to the screen pass for sporadic small gains. "We played a good, solid team today," Paterno said.

"Ohio University is a good football team, not great, but a good solid team. I think we played with a little more intensity. It was a good effort on our part." Sophomore fullback Franco Harris, Penn State's leading rusher with 53 yards, at first said a victory like this is better for the team than a squeeker Penn State had last week when they edged Syracuse, 15-14. "Being down like we were for three quarters against Syracuse misery," the 219-pound Harris said. "But I guess by pulling a Barry, Warriors Appeal Preliminary Injuction SAN FRANCISCO (AP)-At-torneys for basketball star Rick Barry and the San Francisco Warriors went before the U.S.

Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals here Tuesday to appeal a preliminary injunction preventing him from playing with any pro team other than the Washington Capitols. The three-judge panel took the matter under submission. Barry has been playing with the Caps in accordance with a Sept. 26 injunction. However, he was injured and underwent knee surgery last week and is not expected to resume play until January.

The action stemmed from a $10 million damage suit filed by the Caps claiming the Caps, not the Warriors, have a legal contract with Barry. A bathing beauty contest in November! (AP) "Just call it Paterno's law if yen want to," said coach Joe Paterno of Penn State. "The easier a game is for everybody else-the fans and the newspaper people-the harder it is for a coaching staff." Paterno saw a banner head line in a Pittsburgh newspaper before the Nittany Lions clipped Ohio University, 42-3, Saturday to extend their winning streak to 17 games. It read "Penn State Meets Ohio (Who)." "Just think how much that could help a team if they saw that before a game," Paterno said. "This is what a coaching staff has to combat when you play a team like this." The Bobcats apparently didn't see the headline. Penn State had no trouble as it used a 20-point Love Is Back to Sez Miss By LEE MUELLER NEA Sports Writer NEW YORK (NEA)-Romantics around the world were heartened the other day to learn that Tommy Agee, bachelor center fielder of the New York Mets, has been re ceiving proposals of marriage in the mails.

Romantics like this sort of thing. It seemed for a long time the tradi tional affection women allegedly felt for athletic heroes was a dying ember. In this age of Pennant Fever and World Series Hives and Pro Football Hyperpyrexia, there was no room for Love. Not so long ago, mere willows of men flung themselves in front of Flying Wedges for no other reason than to be worshiped by their female public. Then suddenly, which is the way such things happen, the concept melted.

Women began finding more security in stocks and bonds than muscles. The athlete was left pounding his fielder's mitt. No less an authority than Jacque line Susann has observed, how ever, that love is coming back into sports. Love is her game. There are men who doubt the literary worth of her books, but the author of "The Love Machine" knows her love.

'Girls always love football does a team a lot more good than this one." Halfback Gary Deuel, who gained 49 yards, scored two Penn State touchdowns on runs of two and 12 yards. Harris bowled over from the four for the first touchdown, quarterback Charley Burkhart, asually not a scrambler, picked up 32 yards rushing and scored back Mike Smith fell on a blocked punt in the end zone for another score, "What impressed you most about the Penn State defense?" Ohio University coach Bill Hess was asked. "Their personnel," he answered quickly. Penn State now is 6-0 and Ohio University is 2-3-1. Help pave Hazle Twp.

Safety Neal Smith intercepted his seventh pass of the season. It was the 16th of his career and a Penn State record.

He also scored his first touchdown. The Nittany Lions gave up a field goal to Ohio University in the first quarter, but the Bobcats never scored again. The Lions' defense halted two scoring threats in the second period when Smith intercepted a pass and ran it back 70 yards for a touchdown, and Steve Smear recovered a fumble on Penn State's 29 after Todd Snyder caught a Cleve Bryant pass. But once Penn State was past the second quarter, there was no doubt about the outcome, even with Bryant, a surprise starter who had injured his leg Coming Sports, Susann players," she says. Now, many years and thousands of words later, Miss Susann re mains a football fan.

"I'm much more interested in professional football than I am in baseball," she said. Several seasons ago, when Willie Mays trod the basepaths at the Polo Grounds, Miss Susann says she was a Giants' fan. "When they moved to San Francisco, I sort of lost contact with the game, she said, "until this year." This year, the emergence of the New York Mets as something other than a World's Fair freak show has she says "imbued me with a whole new excitement about the game. The Mets have been un believable.
