Vh THE DAWSON HERALD DAWSON NEBRASKA HISTORICAL EDITION AN OLDER GENERATION WITH PAGE WRITES INTERESTINGLY SOME OF THE YOUNGER ONES OF BOYHOOD COMPANIONS The children of the Page and Triggs families were constant companions through many years of their earlier days They played together on the prairie near their homes attended the same rural school and grew to manhood and womanhood together Page wrote the following for this edition of The Herald: Jacob Triggs was united in marriage to Sarah Chaffin in 1855 at Portsmouth Ohio They moved to the State of Missouri in 1856 and were engaged in farming until 1860 At that time they moved to the Territory of Nebraska and bought the W'2 of the SW4 Sec 27 from Alfred Page paying $12500 for the ANNIVERSARY DINNER GROUP AT HILL HOME The group of Triggs when he located there in 1866 The Jacob Triggs family moved Missouri about 1880 Isaac Triggs died in 1900 DR A WAGGENER Dr A Waggener was honor guest of the Richardson County Medical Association and Auxiliary at a dinner in the Park Hotel Humboldt Wednesday evening Feb 27 1936 on the 60th anniversary of his graudation from' the Louisville Kentucky Medical college Dr and Mrs Waggener came to Richardson county in the fall of 1878 and he was one of early physicians They moved from Dawson to Humboldt in 1907 and have three sons all physicians Dr Hewitt A Waggener Los Angeles Dr Wm Waggener Denver and Dr John Todd Waggener of Adams Their daughter Miss Lillith Waggener is a member of the faculty 5f the Beatrice Junior High school Dr and Mrs Waggener continue to make their home in Humboldt and he still continues his practice although he no longer cares to answer night calls above were guests at an anniversary Hill Second row standing Jack 80 acres now owned by Mrs oldest still living in Dawson During his entire life he has only been away eight years during which time he practiced law in Omaha He is a graduate of the law department of the University of Nebraska He was a member of the first graduating class from Dawson High School Mr grandparents we tie among the very earliest settlers hereY coming in 1867 with the first tpf the exceptions thought the only chance one had to support his family and survive was to secure a bottom farm However when the bottom land was all taken up the only thing left was a large tract of rolling treeless prairie land covered with tall grass and many water ponds This land also was soon taken up and proved to be an ideal place for the home seekers- Jacob and Sarah Triggs raised a family of six children William Mary Lydia Julia Amanda and Melissa All grew to womanhood and manhood in this locality and were all married in Richardson county Nebraska as follows: Mary married Frank Todd Lydia Sol Julia August Bernhardt Amanda' William Poteet Melissa Joe Graves Wilfiam Mary Lane Of this entire family only William Triggs of Wymore and Julia Bem-dardt of Dawson are living The writer recalls to his personal knowledge six generations in this family as follows: Daniel Boone" Chaffin Sarah Chaffin Triggs Julia Triggs Bernhardt Mary Bernhardt Vertiska Rudolph Vertiska Jo Ann Lee Vertiska The first three generations in this group were my boyhood friends and neighbors Many changes -have taken place in this community in the last 77 BARLOtfW years and yet life seems short at the best The history of
