Those present were Mesdames Don Klppes, F. A. Brown, Ernest Egger, Bernard Walle, Dan Brookhart, Lawrence Reed, Roy Hinkel of Hays, G.

H. Niesloy, Ralph Klppes, Lawrence Shubort, Fred May, Zealen Fondoble, Darrcll Steel and Harold Dally. Guests were little Terrl Jean Brown, Renee Egger and Ralmey Egger. Patio Steak Fry Dr. and Mrs.

F. A. Brown entertained with a Patio Steak Fry Wednesday evening for Mr. and Mra. J.

R. Nicholson and E. J. Zerfas. Mr.

and Mrs. William Hagen and Oarnla returned Friday morning from a vacation trip to California. Mr. and Mrs. Hagen were accompanied from Laramie, by Garnis, who has been playing in summer stock the past three months.

MlM Bebe Wieaner returned from Denver, where she spent nev eral days on business and visiting relative's. Miss Benita Kuhn left Friday for Denver to spend a week with her aunt, Miss Heddie Kuhn. Mrs. Ray Kipes and grandchildren, Marsha Kippes and R. J.

Kippes, returned Wednesday from a trip to Texas, where they visited R. father, Pat Kippes at Dallas, and Mrs. Kippes' daughter. Mrs. Millard McAfoe and family at San Angelo.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brown have returned from a visit with Mr. Brown's brother, Dean Brown and Mrs. Brown in Kansas City.

Fred Shaw of Newark, arrived Friday to join Mrs. Shaw and Sherlyrin for a visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. A.

Fitzgerald and to attend the wedding of Miss Becky Heeler and Terry Fitzgerald at Jewell today. Mr. Shaw's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Shaw of WaKeeney, and his sister, Mrs.

William Marsh and Drew of Hays met him in Kansas City to accompany him to Ellis. Mrs. Jack Balcombe returned Friday from Emporia, where she has been attending summer school at Emporia State Teachefs College. Mrs. John Beggs left Thursday for Kansas City to visit her daughter, Mrs.

Joe Neuherz and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hurt, Dmig and Becky were in Hays Saturday to attend the Hurt-Dennis wedding. Miss Joy Kellogg, daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. A. J. Kellogg, is among the University of Kansas fine art students receiving scholarships during the 1963-64 academic year, Dean Thomas Gorton of the School of Fine Arts has announced. Miss Kellogg received the K.U.

Chorale' Award. She will be a sophomore at the university this year. Mra. Al Pfelfer, Beverly and Don have returned to their home in Denver, after visiting several days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs, Ed Geschwentner and Danny.

Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Gibson and Miss Blllie Lee Allen, Mr.

and Mrs. Elbert Gibson and grandson, Greg Henschel have returned from Winchester, where they attended the Gibson family reunion. Mrs. W. N.

Gardner left Wednesday for her home in Chanute, after visiting in Ellia several days with her daughter, Mrs. R. E. Weatherholt and family. The Weatherholts and Mrs.

Gardner spent a week in Denver and Grand Lake, and attended a family reunion. David Werta has returned home from Bogue, where he has spent the summer with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Stephen. Miss Edna Mae Homburg re- Monday from St.

Lou la, where she attended the triangular national convention of American iiitheran Church Women. Mrs. 'red Dirks of La Crosse accompanied her to the convention, and also her brother, Arnold Homburg and Fred Hamburg, who visited at Nashville. 111. Mr.

and Mrs. Wayne Allen at Portland, Mr. and William Kennedy returned Tuesday front a vacation trip to Colorado and Wyoming. Mr. and Mrs.

Gene Deutacher have left for Manhattan where Mr. Detitscher will attend Kansas State University and 'Mrs. Deutscher will teach In the Lawrence Elementary School. Mr. and Mrs.

Arnold Keller of Bird City are the parents of a son born Thursday, Aug. 22, at St. Anthony Hospital in Hays. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.

Vernon Hladek and Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Keller of Ellis. Mr. and Mrs.

Ted Begler and daughters left Friday on a vacation trip to Colorado. Miss Minnie Landauer and Mrs. B. D. Brown of Forest Grove, came to Ellis to attend the Kinder- necht Staab wedding and to visit their daughter and sister, Mrs.

Phil Klnderknwht and Mrs. Kin- dernecht. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Keller, Joleen, Paulean, and Gordon have returned from vacation trip to Colorado Springs and Denver.

Comedian Dick Gregory Is Released From Jail Chicago, Aug. E. Joyce. In 1868 the county commissioners agreed io build a court house end jail at a total cost of $240.

The court house was one-story frame and the jail was in basement. This building was destroyed by fire in 1872 and since that time three additional court houses have served the county of Ellis. The third courthouse was destroyed by fire in 1896 and the fourth was razed after the present handsome stone structure was built in 1942. The new courthouse, one of the handsomest in the state, is built of dressed native stone with an interior of marble. It is a building upon which citizens of this county look with pride and which is praised for it beauty and utility by all who see it.
