Haase Powers Rockets By KEN HAMBLETON Star Sports Writer MiUard Three touchdowns by Lincoln Northeast fullback Virgil Haase and a powerful defense helped the third-ranked Rockets breeze to a 37-7 win over Millard here Friday night. The ohly mistake by Rocket defense came with just 50 seconds left when reserve Indian quarterback Steve Story hit Cliff Faust on an eight-yard touchdown pass. Otherwise, it was all game. Mike Ayars got the Rockets moving when he recovered a fumble on the Indian 49-yard hne early in the first quarter. Northeast dominated the game thereafter.

The Wolverines managed only four first downs, 51 yards rushing and 50 yards passing. Despite offensive inconsistency, Wilber assumed control with 5:41 remaining in the third quarter when Mark Horacek ran three yards for a touchdown and quarterback Dana Altman went wide around the right end for the two-point conversion. A 12-yard punt had given Wilber ideal field position at the Friend 33-yard line and the Wolverines needed eight plays to cover the distance.

The most crucial play was a fourth-down screen pass from Altman to Horacek, giving Wilber a first down on the six. Friend Misses Chances Friend frittered away a couple opportunities to retake the lead. One chance evaporated with 9:32 remaining in the fourth quarter when Eberspacher fumbled the snap on a first-and-goal situation from the one. Wilber, however, was unable to generate a counter threat. Forced to punt.

Friend received good position on the Wilber 45- yard Une after a 22-yard kick. When offense stalled at the Wilber 12, Eberspacher made up for his earlier miscue on the one-yard line, by kicking the 29-yard, game-winning field goal. Indians Move The Indians finally got moving, driving 40 yards to the Rocket 37, but a pass bounced out of Millard receiver Gary hands and into those of Rocket defender Jim Gaden. A 49-yard pass from Berka to Eliker moved LNE to the Indian 26, and two plays later. Haase zipped around his right tackle untouched, giving Northeast a 31-6 advantage going into the second half. Two sacks by Monahan and Doug Dell pushed the Indians deep into their territory in the third quarter.

Friday night it was different. The 0-2 Knights finally got in the win column with a 13-7 bruising of unbeaten Ralston. A swarming defense and six Ralston turnovers gave Southeast all the pluses it needed at Seacrest Field.

In the first quarter, however, it looked like neither team wanted the football. Ralston took the kickoff but failed to generate a drive. Forced to punt from their own 37, Dick Meginnis got a hand on the punt. The Knights took the ball on the Ralston 41 and two plays later quarterback Eddie Davis skirted left end on an option play. As Davis broke past the line of scrimmage, end Perry Krogmeier took out two Ralston players, giving Davis a clear shot on a quick 39-yard touchdown run.

With Southeast ahead 7-0 following the extra point kick by Howard Misle, Ralston returned the kickoff to its own 31. Three Pius Routs McCook, 39-0 McCook The power running of senior Tom Doggett sparked Lincoln Pius to a 39-0 non- conference victory over Class A McCook here Friday night. Doggett, who gamed 128 yards in 18 carries, scored the second touchdown to give the Capital City club a 12-0 lead after one quarter. Doggett was an all- state 1-back last year as a The Class Lincoln school scored on its first possession, in a 17-play drive, culminated by Steve one- yard sweep around the left end for the touchdown. That early score with 4:17 to play in the first quarter proved to be all the offensive attack the Class school of coach Vince Aldrich needed.

After recovering the McCook fumbled kickoff on the 38-yard line, the needed only three plays to score as tallied his touchdown with 2:57 to play in the first quarter. While the Thunderbolts were rolling to a 33-0 halftime advantage, the Lincolnites dominated the offensive and defensive statistics. McCook was held without a first down in the first half and gained a net six yards rushing on 14 plays. Pius gained 182 yards in the half. The Bison took the second-half kickoff and drove to the Pius 20 but the held in four plays, taking over on the 25, but had to punt.

McCook again drove to the Pius 20, aided by a few penalties, a pass interference call and one of the two passes completed by the Bison, but Tom Peterson, a Pius comer- back the drive when he picked off a pass on the 11. The rushed for 259 yards on 59 carries while holding McCook to just 48 yards on 22 carries. Although Pius led all categories in the stats, one area might have hurt them had they not had such a lead. Pius was penalized 11 times for 105 yards, although seven penalties for 60 yards was not far behind. McCook lost three fumbles, while the Thunderbolts lost just one.

Ralston move the ball and punted to Southeast again four plays later but Davis then threw an interception to give the Rams the ball once more on the 31.

The quarterbacks continued to have their problems. Two plays later, Michaelson fumbled back to Roehrs and Southeast at the 35 to end the tradeoffs of the first quarter. It until just over two minutes remained in the first quarter that the football even saw the Southeast side of the field. That followed a Ralston punt to the Knight 44. defense and turnovers continued to keep the ball in Ram territory through most of the game, game.

The second half opened with the Knights putting a controlled offensive drive. Starting on its own 29 after the kickoff, Southeast used up seven minutes of the quarter and marched to the Ram 32 before the drive bogged down. The Knights, who rushed for a season high 247 yards for the game, continued with their ground game from that point. The attack nearly put six more points on the board halfway through the final period when a drive pushed the ball all the way to the Ram one. Three plays at the goal line were pushed back by Ralston, however.

The next threat by Southeast as friendly. Following runs of 16 yards by Jim Bolin and 19 by Greg Prochaska, Davis popped a pass over the middle to Mark Lanik for the second Southeast score from five yards out. The kick was blocked but with only 1:12 left to play, the Knights were in the drivers seat on the scoreboard. After throwing four interceptions during the game, the Rams come back in the final minute to deprive Southeast of a shutout. Michaelson connected on a screen pass to Terry Shannon who out-manuevered the Knights for 53 yards and a touchdown.
