Caught without warning, the Huskers' tremendous ground defenses and vastly improved attack were not enough as the Hoosiers came from behind to take a 19 14 victory before 38,000 Band Day observers at Memorial Stadium.

Six times the Hoosier air force used its key weapon a 6 foot 3, 215 pound end named Brad Bomba. And six times this human funnel pulled in the ball. He covered a total of 82 yards. Each time it was the crucial play, the play which played havoc with Nebraska's otherwise staunch 'i defense. Fourth Quarter Scoring Two of the scores came in the fourth quarter after Nebraska had built a 14 0 barricade in the first half and left the field at half time with a 14 6 margin.
