She was born February 15, 1934, in Gaston, SC, to the late Henry and Effie Lucas Spires. Mrs. Goodwin is survived by her four children, Molly Zeigler (Gary), Sam E. Goodwin, Jr.

(Shelby), Faye Davis (Glenn), and Ernest Goodwin (Kathy); 12 grandchildren, 27 great- grandchildren; and eight great- great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, three brothers and one grandson. The family will receive friends at Congaree Baptist Church, 101 Pine Ridge Drive, West Colum- bia, SC, on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, from 2-3 with a funer- al service following at 3 p.m. In- terment will be in the church cemetery. Maj. Lester A. Loflen COLUMBIA A service to the Witness of Resurrection for Maj. Lester A. Loflen, U.S.

Ar- my, 96, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017, at Forest Lake Presbyteri- an Church with visitation follow- ing the service, in the Narthex. A private burial will be held in the church Memorial Gardens. Mr. Loflen passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017.

Born October 8, 1920, in Mt. Airy, N.C., he was a son of the late Dillard Wilson Loflen and Jettie Irene Moody Loflen. A veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, he was awarded the Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, and the Purple Heart (Combat Infantry Badge, with Cluster). He was active in his church, Forest Lake Presby- terian, and in neighborhood ac- tivities. He was happiest when helping others.

Surviving are his wife, Ka- thryn P. Loflen of Columbia; daughter, Karen Gail Loflen of Columbia; brother, Dillard Wade Loflen of Mt. Airy, N.C.; and nu- merous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 N. Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206.

Lucas 78, of West Columbia, husband of the late JoAnn Lanigan Lucas passed away Monday, April 24, 2017, at Agape Hospice House Columbia, South Carolina. He was born Ju- ly 14, 1938, in Cayce, SC, to the late Samuel Lucas Sr.

and Ruby Wise Lucas. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, a member of Cayce Masonic Lodge 384, worked his whole life and retired from Allied He was a life- time member of Cayce United Methodist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Chris Ferrell (Ron Spigner); a son, Ken Lucas; two sisters, Fran Struble (Dave) and Ruby Lucas (Jack); one brother, Jerry Lucas (Diane); three grandchildren, Nikki Goings Gabriel, Caleb Shealy (Ashley) and Sam Lucas IV; and two great-grandchildren, Daina and Jared. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by one brother, Donnie Lucas; and grandson-in- law, Roy Gabriel, Jr.

John William Neeley III, died Monday, April 24, 2017. Born May 1, 1920, in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Clar- ence Kennedy Gillespie and Geneva Dunlap Gillespie. Sara was a graduate of Colum- bia College and was a school teacher at Fulmer Middle School for 18 years. She was a mem- ber of Ascension Lutheran Church. She loved traveling, cooking, and reading.

Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Cauble (Woody) of Cin- cinnati, Ohio; son, John William Neeley IV (Carla) of Co- lumbia; four grandchildren, Christine Cauble (Dave), Angela Brokow (Jeremy), John William Neeley and Rebecca Brady (Nate); and five great- grandchildren. Jennie Eva Pulk Pruessner COLUMBIA Jennie Eva Pulk Pruessner passed away peace- fully in her sleep in Columbia, South Carolina, on April 23, 2017. Grandma Jennie was 96 years old and loved by her fami- ly and friends as a kind, inquisi- tive, generous and loving soul, always finding the best in a per- son or a situation. Her loving husband, John Arthur Pruessner, died in 2000.

She is survived by two daughters: Mar- gery Lynn Pruessner (Bill Rolfe) and Sandra Kay Pruessner (John Motto), five grandchildren: Jen- nie Motto Mesterharm (Mike), Mary Kathryn DeMott (Joe), Jacob Motto (Lauren Neichter, Chris George and Stephanie George (Chad Daymont, and one great- grandson, John DeMott. She lived her life with strength, kind- ness, optimism, courage, and most of all, love. Although she will be greatly missed, she will live on in our hearts, our family traditions and in our memories. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at St.

Marilyn Ruth Stuerke COLUMBIA Marilyn Ruth Stuerke passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017, in Columbia, SC.

She was born in Kansas City, MO, on July 20, 1927, to Harry and Ruth Garrison. In 1949 she married Wilbur Stuerke in Higginsville, MO. They owned and operated Restau- rant in Summit, MO, and the Sunset Motel in Sedalia, MO. They retired at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and Alamo, TX. She is survived by her daugh- ter, Vicki Neville of Winder, GA, son, Steve Stuerke of West Co- lumbia, son, Scot Stuerke (Jen- nifer) of Summit, MO, eight grandchildren, Jeff Wissman, Doug Neville, Sara Hollar (Eric), Jill Munn (Justin), David Stuerke, Brad Neville, Laura Stuerke and Hannah Stuerke, and seven great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her stepmother, Lucille Garrison, a daughter, Susan L. Wissman, and a granddaughter, Kelley Ne- ville. Janice Cacinda Thomas COLUMBIA Funeral service for Ms. Janice Cacinda Thomas will be held 1:00 p.m.

Thursday at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, 11121 Monticello Road, with burial in the church cemetery. Viewing for Ms. Thomas will be held today from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary and Cremation Services, 5003 Rhett Street.

Price Summer. He retired from SRNL as a Se- nior Laboratory Analyst after 40 years of service. He was a mem- ber of St. Paul United Methodist Church where he enjoyed sing- ing in the choir. Clovis loved gardening and fishing and en- joyed traveling both nationally and abroad.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 61 years, Laura, include three children, Michael E. Summer (Mary), Barbara S. Johnson (Tommy), Russell A. Summer (Kristy); three grand- children, Jessica S. Walker (Chris), Cameron T.

Johnson (Janet), Ansley J. Summer; three great-grandchildren, Clay T. Johnson, Rebecca L. Walker, Ri- ley E. Walker, all of Aiken; two brothers, Myron Summer, West Columbia, Douglas Summer (Ann), New Ellenton.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Daphne Monts. The family will receive friends Thursday morning, April 27th beginning at 10 in the Family Life Center at St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Ellenton. The funeral will follow at 11 in the Sanc- tuary officiated by Pastor Robert Reeves. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Watson, wife of the late Haile Otto Watson, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017. Born in Camden, she was the daughter of the late John Lathan and Eloise Parker Gettys. A graduate of Camden High School, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from Queens College in Charlotte, N.C. She taught in the Kershaw County School Systems. In the early sixties, she and her hus- band built and opened Green Hills Golf Course.

Surviving are her son, Butch Watson (Lynda) of Lugoff; daughters, Mary Hallman (Rev. John) of Lugoff, Sarah Oliver (Dr. Richard) of Lugoff, and Lisa Edwards (Mark) of Lugoff; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Abby Chestnut. Nat was born November 22, 1937, in Augusta, GA.

He went to be with the Lord on April 20, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy F. Whitlaw, brother, David D. Whitlaw, and his parents, Nathaniel O. and Octavia D.

Whitlaw. He is sur- vived by his treasured sons, Na- thaniel O. Whitlaw III (Stephanie) of Millersville, MD, and Troy B. Whitlaw of Colum- bia, SC, and three cherished granddaughters, Sheila, Kyla and Grace Whitlaw. Nat, a dedicated father and Department of Army soldier, committed his life to the giving of himself to his family and his country.

He was a devoted sol- dier who served in the military and retired as a lieutenant colo- nel after 22 years of selfless service. He was also a dedicated supporter of Clemson University after graduating with a B.S. de- gree in textile manufacturing and a degree in busi- ness administration. He volun- teered his time to the Riverland Hills CRC class and the local chapter of the Gideons. Nat en- joyed traveling, attending and watching Clemson football, and hunting and fishing with his boys.
