Hughes manufactures ready- swung doors, moldings, window units and other white pine products, plus both metal and wood window screens. Starting business in 1943, Hughes Manufacturing Company has grown rapidly. It now sells its products to dealers throughout Oklahoma and Texas.

"The dealer who buys from us has one big advantage to start with," Hughes says in explaining the rapid growth of his company. "By buying from us, he buys directly from the manufacturer. We are not jobbers, therefore the middle-man's profit is saved by the dealer. "Another big advantage handling our products is the fact that it is all made from excellent grade umber; r.o better quality goes out than what we manufacture and the dealers who buy from us know it." Hughes is also a wholesale dealer in lumber, so his customers have a convenient "one-place firm" from which to order materials. The lumber which goes into the millwork manufactured by Hughes comes mostly from Arizona and Colorado.

Hughes buys only higher qualities of lumber, which is kiln dried. Only select grades of lumber are used in the doors, window units and other products which his plant turns out. Hughes first came to this part of the country in 1326 from Oklahoma. He left for a while to live in Arkansas, but came to Lubbock eight years ago. He is glad for that decision.
