Leon Hawkins Leon Hawkins, 82, died May 22. There will be no ser- vice. Manasota Memorial Park Funeral Home is handling the arrange- ments. Isabel M. Whitehead Isabel M. Whitehead, 85, of Bradenton died May 27, 2009. Survivors include sons, Ed, Allen Bob Whitehead; eleven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be Saturday, June 6, at Church of The Annunciation.

Interment and a graveside service for the family and close friends will be at the West Oak Lawn Cemetery in Plant City, Florida, on Friday at 1:30 P.M. The Rev. Tho- mas Warnock, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church of Plant City will officiate at both services. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ross Leland Wright; her sis- family Jewel Hil- burn and Bob Lovelace of Bradenton, Florida; her family Gwynn Alan and Patsy Hilburn of Greenville, North Caro- lina; two daughters, Sharyn Wright Salter of Wauchula, Florida, and Nancy Wright Diaz of Tampa, Florida; five grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, and four nieces and nephews who loved her very much. She is a graduate of the University of Alabama and has devoted her life to her family, and her church.

She loved her Lord and served Him well. The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to either TideWell Hospice of Sarasota, Flor- ida or Florida Baptist Home in Lake- land, Fl. Fred L. Walther Fred L. Walther, 72, Bradenton, died unex- pectedly May 29 at Mana- tee Memorial Hospital. A native of Louisville, he was the son of the late Fred and Vera Walther. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Roney Walther; two sons, Jeff Walther of Lexington (Katherine Stone) and Chris Walther (Susan Stockton) of Geneva, Switzerland, and four grandchildren, Rollin, Emma, Hallie, and Henry Walther. He was a resident of Bradenton since 1979. Born in Jersey City, NJ, he grew up in Belleville, NJ, until he and his high school sweetheart, wife, Gertrude, bought their first home in Bloomfield, NJ.

They raised their fam- ily and lived there 27 years. From boyhood through adulthood, Jack tremen- dously enjoyed summers and weekends at the fam- ily farm in Stormville, NY. Immediately following his high school gradua- tion, Jack worked for the Prudential Insurance Co. and spent 40 years in the Actuarial Department. During World War II he was a navigator and flight instructor on B-17's, and stationed in Monroe, LA, he com- pleted his military ser- vice as a Major in the Re- tired Reserve of the U.S.

Air Force. He was an avid stamp and coin collector, a professional shuffle boardist, the family gene- alogist, and a highly suc- cessful self-taught stock market analyst. Jack embraced his civic duty and love of the City of Bradenton, and pas- sionately wrote thought- provoking research-based letters. He spoke fre- quently at the City Council meetings. He proudly was a member of the Mayor's Advisory Board under Bill Evers administration.

He was a very frequent patron and contributing supporter of the Bradenton Public Li- brary. Jack was on con- dominium association boards of the numerous retirement communities in which he lived. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Gertrude (2007) and daughter Patricia (1973). Survivors include daugh- ter, Marilyn (Joe) Fiordal- iso of NJ; son, Jack (Terry) Morey of MD; sister, Jeanne of CA; four grandchildren; three great-granddaughters. Online condolences made to www.brownandsonsfuner al.com. Henry Aulton Griggs Henry Aulton Griggs, 90, entered the presence of his Lord June 2, 2009. He passed away peace- fully at TideWell Hospice in Bradenton. Henry was born in Pineview, Georgia, June 6, 1918, and moved to Flor- ida with his family when he was 7 years old. As a youth, he grew up farm- ing and doing construc- tion work during the De- pression.

After graduat- ing from Manatee High School, he married Ida Louise Gates. He served in the Navy during World War II. After the war he began a career as a contractor and built many houses, a condo- minium complex and several commercial build- ings in Manatee County. He loved bowling and fishing, especially snook fishing, and making cast nets. One time he threw a net off of Longboat Pass Bridge and caught 187 mullet in one throw.

He used to joke that, if you had all the fish he caught during his lifetime at one place, there would be so many that put them all in one Henry was the Manatee oldest faith- ful fan. Almost every au- tumn Friday night since 1931 he walked the few blocks from his house to the stadium to watch his beloved Hurricanes play football. He accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was nineteen years old. His spiritual birthday was September 5, 1937. During his latter years, whenever family and friends would gather to celebrate his birthday, he would ask for a moment to speak and encourage them all by saying, want to urge everyone that they, too, will follow the Lord-the young ones, the old ones and the middle-aged ones.
