Forces should be taken immediately by the proper authorities of the State of Texas and "WHEREAS It appears that it will be necessary for the Legislature of the State of Texas to amend certain statutes governing the absentee voting and payment of poll taxes in order to effectively guarantee this right to the members of tbe Armed Forces: and It is the unanimous opinion of said joint bodies that all action necessary should be taken Including the calling of a special session of the Legislature by our Governor Coke Stevenson for such purpose and such action should be taken Immediately In order to assure the right to vote to those in the Armed Forces: Therefore Be It Resolved by the Commissioners' Court of El Paso County Texas the City Council of the City of Fl Paso Texas and the Chamber of Commerce of El Paso Texas that the Governor of the State of Texas be and he hereby Is respectfully requested and urged to immediately call a special session of the Legislature for the purpose of recommending passage of appropriate legislation to grant to all persons of legal voting age in the Armed Forces the right to vote for the duration of the war in all primary and general elections and to further provide for abolition for the duration of the war of the payment of a poll tax as a requisite for voting by members of the Armed Forces and to get up the simplest and most effective means
