It 9 ? Easy to Own an Inn* If You Have $1 Million! Gqlesburg Register-Mdil, Golesburg, FHdby, July 16, 1963 T-3 Would you like to own a Holiday fnn? It may not be as hard ai you think. It you've got a spare million tucked away somewhere and go to church regularly, then you're two-thirds on your way. But how about that other/third? Actually, this is the easiest part, according to the Franchise Sales Department of Holiday Inns of America, Inc., in Memphis, Tenn. Sounds simple, but there are quite a few things to work out, such as choice of location, plans, furnishings and franchise, which Costs $10,000. Franchise holders want protection for their investment. For this reason the original franchise holder in a certain area has the first say-so on building another inn in his area. Once you've agreed on the location, you visit it with a member of the franchise sales staff, work out the small print, and file corporate and personal applications. Most of the inns are owned by small corporations of from three to six men, ranging in occupation from the town's leading doctor to the grocer and plumber. An important thing to remember is that you're going into a long-term investment when you build a Holiday Inn. Naturally, you'll want to assure yourself of good returns over the years. For this reason you can expect a certain amount of investigation into your personal and financial character. You'll also want a feasa- bility report on your location, to make sure that it's one with more than just a chance of succeeding, Your total investment will prob ably come close to a million dot lars for a 100-unit inn. However, il isn't necessary to put up thtsj amount immediately. The fran chise department will be glad to] direct you to a mortgage banker Since you are putting up yourl money the physical plant is yourl own. You only lease the Holiday! Inn trade-marks, agreeing to| abide by Holiday Inn standards. As it is with any company, thej final say-so comes from the boss Holiday Inns makes no exceptions and the final stamp of approva on your franchise comes from thej executive committee. They're also plans to be drawnl up and some 3,000 items that gol into every Holiday Inn that havej to be attended to. HI A, Inc., can handle all of thtsl for you like a package plan. Theyj can even give you a turnkey jobf —the whole works from architec tural plans down to the last ash| tray in each guest room. Jack Ladd, senior vice presi-j dent in charge of franchise sales! said that the company decided! that the franchise method would! be the best way to put Holiday] Inns all across the country. "We! only had an idea to sell," saidl Ladd, "and it was rough sledding] for a few years until the bal started to roll." The ball has started to roll, and! today there are over 375 Holiday[ Inns in the U.
