be published by Hugh Mclnnish son of Kate Mclnnish of South Prairie Street in Union Springs and of the late Mclnnish for many years the postmaster here book is the story of Arthur Rudolph During the war Rudolph was a member of the fabled team of Wernher von Braun at Peenemuende the secret German rocket development center on the Baltic Later he was in charge of V-2 Rocket production at what was called the or Middle Work an innocuous name chosen to disguise a vast underground labyrinth in the Harz Mountains where the rocket was manufactured At the end of the war the von Braun team was scattered throughout the Bavarian countryside hiding from the SS who it was rumored would kill the rocket scientists rather than let them fall into enemy hands Instead Rudolph and the others were captured by American troops and the von Braun team was brought to America to work Rudolph worked far the army and for NASA At NASA he was one of von top lieutenants in the Apollo program and he managed the development of the Saturn the very large booster rocket that launched American astronauts to the moon Several years after he retired Rudolph was accused by the Office of Special Investigations the Nazi-hunting unit in the Justice Department of having mistreated the forced laborers who were used cm his V-2 production line in the Under threat of prosecution Rudolph signed an
