The Raiders come off of a two-game split last week losing the 1972 inaugural 91-78 but evening up the series with an 87-73 second game victory against the Webb AFB crew from Big Spring. Coached by first year mentor Alphonso Daniels the Raiders displayed a successful fast break Saturday afternoon in a come-back win after being down three points at the half time break. Coach Daniels, at times, frustrated over the forced shooting in the early'portion of the bath day matmefe contest, revamped the offensive attack and saw his Raiders up their production to 51 points to win by 14. Defensively the Del Rio-based Raiders put the screws on the Webb shooters, over the final half for 34 points, lowest for either squad in the game.

Laughlin's main problem will be the height advantage which the Goodfellow Sky Hawks bring to Del Rio. Led by Andy McCall, a 6-8 forward and backed up by 6-7 Rosie Curry at center, Bill McKenny. 6-5 forward and a pair of 6-3 and 6-ftftiWuards in Jim Curtis and Tom Rearden. Sky HaVk assistant coach Sgt. Jenkins said today that the Goodfellow squad been ripping the nets at a 100-point clip using full court attack all the way.

He also stated that the Sky Hawks had downed the Lowake Inn semi-pros twice and the C. S. Sporting Goods club twice by margins between 30-40 marks and have "wiped out" the Angelo State University Rams in tow scrimmage sesseions. Laughlin, with only center Charles Freeman at 6-4, averages out at about six feet although Coach Daniels, who up but did not get into the action against Webb, could add his 6-4 stature for the Goodfellow series. The Raiders and the Big Spring Flyers were evenly matched in height but Laughlin's Freeman dominated the offensive back boards with help from Phillip Thomas.

The Raiders parlayed their rebound ability with a game-long fast break to outrun and outgun their opponents Angora Coach Respects Tigers ROCKSPRINGS-Pulling the old familiar Darrell Royal trick of crying in about how he hopes his team can stay on the field with the Brackettville Tigers, Coach Duane Heath, head mentor of the Rocksprings Angoras today stated that he is "scared to death" of the Tigers as he prepares his team for an intersectional rivalry Friday night. The Tigers and Angoras will step out of their respective districts this week as the Class Angoras tackle the Class A Brackett eleven. Paced by the running of tailback Joey Conel and a stingy defense which has allowed only 75 points in seven games the Angoras will enter the game at 5-2 on the year. The Rocksprings team has suffered defeats at the hands of Wall, 20-0 and Handera, 27-6, but has managed to whip four class A ball clubs as well as Class Charlotte. Conel, at 148 pounds, leads the offense with a total of 1,095 yards rushing in seven games.

The senior ball carrier will be working behind a line averaging at 162 pounds. Heath stated that last week Amistad Bass Club To Meet Thursday The Amistad Bass Club members will meet at the San Felipe Country Club Thursday at 7:30 p.m. to view two films, to discuss the Nov. 5 club tbumey and vie for two coveted awards, a Gold Garcia casting reel and a 4-power hunting scope, announced club proxy James Lee Leonard today. The films are on the usage of the Lowrance Fish Locator and on Striped Bass Fishing on San Tee Cooper Lake.

The Gold Garcia reel is a club sponsored award based on a drawing of the entire 350 membership but presentation dependant upon the member being present at the meeting. The scope Is a special fringe benefit donated by member and gunsmith Russell Shlvely. The club's October tournament attracted 54 members with a harvest of 202 Ibs. 14 ozs. taken.

against St. Mary's of Fredericksburg, Conel raced for 189 yards and the week before against Class Charlotte romped for nearly 260 yards. Touting his senior tailback for All-State honors Heath stated that "Conel has only scored 62 points this year but "has had a bunch called back. It seems that he has to score twice to have one count." The 18 th-ranked Angoras are also sporting a stingy defense which has yeilded an average of 7.5 points per ball game after having blanked their last two opponents. The head coach stated, "We run a multiple defense utilizing about four -different types.

Mainly we use a five-monster but we throw in variations and other defenses during' the game." Heath pointed out that during the last two games, against St. Mary's and Cnarolette, the opposition had the ball inside the Rocksprings five yard line three times and failed to score. "We held St. Mary's to three first downs and 111 yards in total offense," added Heath. "Our boys have come a long ways after loosing the two games and have played good defense." Heath expressed great respect for the Brackett team adding "We haven't got anybody that can stay up with Jaso.

That team will run a couple of times and punt, tnen run a couple of times and punt and then run a couple of times and they're gone. They rely heavily on the long runs and you have to tackle thern hard or they will wriggle free and be The Angoras will face the Tigers with what Heath called, "basically a running offense. However, our quarterback Rene Ramirez, has thrown for several touchdowns this year so we do pass some." The Rocksprings team is very young with just seven seniors and 14 juniuii on the 36-man roster. Six of the seven games yed by the Angoras have against Class A opposition as Heath pointed out "We've learned a lot playing above our class." An 8 o'clock kickoff is slated for the battle Friday night in the renewaJ ot a long time rivalry. Brackett has taken the last two contests 27-21 in 1970 and 32-14 last year.

Claude Fest, head football coach et Del Rio High School, wasn't in what you might describe as a congenial mood Tuesday morning. The gigantic mentor was fretting over Monday's workout mainly because as he put It. "Most of the players were just going through the motions without any real zip." Fest, who played with the San Antonio Edison Golden Bears, and later with the Texas University Longhoms, is stilt a bear for dedication. He remarked this morning, "If we want to get it (a win over Fox Tech here Friday) the boys better get with it this afternoon. We weren't at all pleased with Monday's practice Cession.

We got to crank up and really go this evening and tomorrow to regain our effectiveness." On the bright side Coach Fest said that "Gary Rodriguez was running real well in the slot vacated unintentionally by the injury to Leon Best and that Jerry Fay, who stretched a knee ligament last week, was "running some" and has not been "completely ruled out" for play in Del Rio's Homecoming game here Friday. Still on the sunny side of the grid street Coach Fest Indicated that the Ram defensive unit was intact other than Best who was used partially as a secondary defender. Either Rodriguez or Andy Falls does Best's job efficiently and if Rodriguez goes full time on offense then Falls and Jeff Burr will share the defensive action. Currently the Rams have been running the offensive backfteld with left halfbacks Gus Ramirez, Burr and Rodriguez and the right side with Rodriguez, Falls and Bobby Garcia. "We won't know until after Wednesday's tough session just who will start on Friday but we feel that with an accelerated workout today and tomorrow the boys who really want to play will shot it." Happily the Rams have Keith Stone hale and healthy In the event Del Rio has to resort to a kicking game.

Stone who has been the mainstay in the punting department has kept the opposition in poor field condition all year. Averaging right at 38 yards per kick Stone, a 6-0, 170 junior has the poise to wait out his downfield rushing teammates before booming his long, tall punts. Fest, in reference to the Dei Rio air game, said Tuesday, "Felix Garcia looked good Monday during the passing workout and he could get the call for aerial assignments Friday. Mario Hernandez, the optloneer signal caller Is slated to open again at the quarterback slot with David Simpson, the durable fullback flanking the new halfback combo. Meanwhile back at the practice field Coach Fest wants the squad to "crank up and get the lead out" for a decent performance on Homecoming Game night here Friday.

RARE OCCURENCE: Mario Jaso, Bracken's breakaway threat at halfback, is brought down after a short gain against Natalia's Mustangs Friday night This picture was not duplicated after as the Tigers bombed the Ponies 46-0 to stand 2-0 in district play.
