The. days and nights are of about equal length now. coru crop in Jefferson town ship is pimply immense. Will Gorham 'rise and explain?" We don't believe a word of it. Late corn iu this section does not seem to le hjirt hy the frosts so far.

There is more sickness in this vicin ity than we hare known for a long time. "Lies are not the only things that come home to roost all evil things do." Billing. Prof. McKee and lady hare taken rooms and are boarding with Mr. Geo.

Beebe. They have a nice place. Our school board have hired teach ers for both the upper and lower room, and school is to begin next 'Monday. We desire to add our testimony to the success of the Valley Falls Reporter. The editress Is abundantly able to take care of Valley Falls.

The editor of the Winchester News has taken a school, to begin October 4, three and a half miles south-east of town. lie will have Bome cold rides, we presume. Miss Sarah Carithers, of whom we spoke two weeks ago, we are glad to say, is convalescent. She was very low at one time and but little hope of her recovery was entertained. The time for our county fair is draw ing nigh.

Are you ready with your corn, wheat, potatoes, horses, cattle. pigs, If not, don't delay any Ion ger. Lay off a week for a holiday. It will pay you. The New Era of last wgek suffered somewhat frem contraction.

It did not make its appearance until Mon day, and, tho' old, it was like the Irishman's whisky, "very small of its age." By-the-by, it seems whisky was the cause of the trouble. George, we didn't think that of you Or was it the typos? Prof. McKee has been having a run of fever remittent, we believe. He is recovering slowly, and will, we hope, soon be able to resume his his place iu the pulpit and in the school-room. Mrs.

McKee has given way since the crisis is past and is quite ill but with her pluck and will, she can't be sick long. Both have the sympathy of the entire com rnuuity. We are glad to hear so many of our people talk of going to our county Fair. It will come off next week. The time is short get every thing ready, lay them safely by, and when the time comes "tackle up" and take the family and go.

The prospect now, is that the Jefferson county Fair this fall will be the best one we have ever had. We are sure that all that is necessary to make it such, is for our people to turn out and take along with them the best samples they have in possession. There can be that taken which would astonish an Eastern man, were he here. At the Union S. S.

in Winchester, on last Sabbath, W. C. Kirkpatrick was elected Superintendent, Mr. Ash-wood, Vsst. Mrs.

Cbatfield, Sec'y, John Little, Librarian, and Miss Jennie Wilhelm, Assistant Librarian. The school under these officers will no doubt progress. Mr. Kirkpatrick has been Superintendent of the school before, and is an excellent man. All the officers are well fitted for the work and will make the school the means of doing much good.

The Sunday schools in W. are all doing well witba perhaps, one exception. There are however many children still in W. who ought to be brought in, and conld be, we think, if the proper effort was made. .32 1 If -we- BULBS PL ATI TO worn.
