The peaceful protests are reminiscent of demonstrations in the 1960s to desegregated lunch counters that made Nashville a focus of the civil rights movement. The Tennessean asked people at protests in Nashville and Franklin why they wanted to participate and what needs to happen to resolve systemic social injustice.

LARRY THE TENNESSEAN A Nashville-area nursing home at the center of one of the deadliest coro- navirus outbreaks in Tennessee has a one-star health rating and a history of infection control issues, including re- peat citations over several years for poor handwashing among ac- cording to a Tennessean review of public inspection records. The Gallatin Center of Rehabilita- tion and Healing, a 207-bed nursing home where 23 resident deaths are linked to coronavirus, was partially evacuated in late March after an out- break in the facility. In the week after the evacuation, state health cleared the nursing home of all virus- related and said the facil- response was but alle- gations the Gallatin Center mishan- dled the outbreak persist.

Medical records show one elderly resident who died from the virus had symptoms for days before being sent to the hospital. Dover announced June 2 that they will move one of their two NASCAR Cup Series races to the venue next year.
