Professor Isaac right, a teacher in the Oakland High school, resigned his position. The resignation will take fleet at the eud of the school year. The female teachers in tbe. Oakland High school have commenced their contest against the male teachers. They want their salaries equalized as is shown in the following communication sent to the board lastuight: Tbe salaries of the men who are head's of departments in this school are 20 per cent higher than those of the women holding the same rank.

The work of the latter requires aa much meutai preparation as the work of the former, and in some cases very much more physical exertion and labor out of school hoars. Discrimination in salaries on account of sex is not in accordance with the spirit of the advanced institutions of learning of the present day, and is unworthy of so progressive a school depait-ment as that of Oakland. Such discrimination is illegal as bein contrary to the letter and vpirit of that portion of tbe school law entitled "An act to prevent discrimination against female teachers," and approved March iw, 1874, which reads as follows: Section 1. Female employed as teachers in tbe public schools of this stpte shall receive the same compensation as is allowed to male teach 'A the bill, while you enjoy i This sale will last Three "Weeks Longer.
