What on institution has this become? The Singer Manufacturing Company employs ten sets of bands working alternately, night and day, turning out about two thousand machines per week, and notwithstanding are still nearly twenty thousand machines In amar of orders. The wonderful increase in the demand in Miswmri may be Inferred from the fact that the Kansas city pub-agent, who sold during 1867 only forty-eve machines, is now selling about one hundred per month -The Singer machines always, as remarkable for their sitar as for their adaptability to all kinds of work, have been recently greatly improved and rendered not only more beautiful in appearnee, but essentially quiet and rapid in opaation, both for family and manufacturing Either kind will sew perfectly every fabric. Thal most delicate texture called "illusion," can be as perfectly sewn sa ordinary muslin, which is a feat that cannot be achieved by any machine with a vibrating arm which necessitates a crooked needle.

Nothing can be more beautiful than the easy adaptation of every device for hemming, cording. braiding, bindle', tucking, and last. though not least, the new device for ruffling and stitching the same as a single operation. BY A- I. HALL CO, No.

A filrong-ininded woman, a doetress, from Fort Scott, Kenna, arrived in the city morning. She was on the way to her friends East, with the view of a short call on the Woman's Suffrage Convention, now in session at Mercantile Library Ball. She was attired in tbe bloomer habiliments, a sort of half male, half feminine costume. She wore lady's hat, of the approved style, from wild' the hair tasted to her shoulder, in true feminine taste, and her drese consbeed of a grey woollen cloak, a gentleman's surtout Around her was a fur muffler. Thus far all maidnlike, hut the surtout happened to meet a pair of bugtronvers, at a reasonable distance above the ankle, and this was a terrible offenee--a violation ordinance No.

5,421, article 2, section 2, which declares it a naledemeanor to "appear in a dress not belonging to kin or her sect," or "a lewd dress," the line for which is fixed at not less than ea or more than WOO. Well, the style of dress is a matter of arbitrary faehion, and any departure from the currant mode is sure to attract attention. As the doe-tress was sauntering along Fourth street, minding her own bubinem, she was arrested by a tall and gallant police officer, for a violation of ordinance No. 5,421. The arrest was by no personal rise, zed the exercise of no particular sagacity.

The prisoner drew no glistening stiletto from ha no attempted in any wayto esist, by knocking down, kkking. beating, or otherwise wresting bersellviolently from the clutches of ker courageous and gallant captor. Besides, there was a creed collected who, out of sympathy for city ordinance No. 5,421, would have waisted the officer in the performance of his duty bad any violence been tiered to his person. Jacesostvrtte, Octet During the last Dvr days the good people of our moral city of churches and schools have been 'jogging" along smoothly, there having been no special sensation since the occurrence of the Hock shooting affair last week, which came near being a startling tragedy.

We learn that affair has been settled on the basis that "all is well that ends well." Mr. Hock shot hie wife, ber child, and her male protector, but the shots were not in either case danger-ems. Mrs. Hock went from here to Whitehall, on the St Louis road. Mr.

Hock had remained in this vicinity, and he followed his wife for the purpoee of getting his children, proposing then to let the woman go. At their oecond interview a reconciliation took place, and with his recovered wife and children, Mr. Hock has gone back to Kansas City. THE REPCBILIGAII COUNTY CONVENTION Came of on the last Saturday. After aC311- Fiderable amount of caucusing in advance the convention was organized by calling Mr.

For this Thomas, who is a lawyer of note and ability, did not "fill the bill," as he is known to be opposed to the proposed division, and therefore he was Mit to give puce to an ObeCtIrr man.
