8A WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 27 2017Obituaries KANSAS.COM Gear, Virginia (Gini) 93, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 20. She passed into what she firmly believed will be eternal life in heaven. Her warmth and generosity created a living legacy of loving family and cherished friends who will miss her greatly. Gini was born April 13, 1924, in Hutchinson, KS, to John Brehm and Bertha Louise (Dack) Brehm. She was an only child who loved animals and gardens, developing a lifelong sensitivity towards disadvantaged people and animals.

She graduated in 1942 from Hutchinson High School, where she met her future husband, Raymond James (Jim) Gear. From 1942 to 1944, she attended the University of Kansas and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. On June 7, 1945, Gini and Jim married at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, beginning a 50 year union that lasted until his death in 1995. The couple moved to Wichita in 1954. greatest joy was in her family: daughters Nancy Campbell and Trish Higgins, both of Wichita, and her deceased son James Gear; grandchildren Scarlett Higgins and her husband Matthew Hofer, of Albuquerque, NM, Hanae Nosti and her husband Patrick, of Fairway, KS, Ryan Higgins and his wife Jessica Sherrets, of San Carlos, CA and Taylor Campbell and his wife Dawn, of Las Vegas, NV.

Gini also leaves four great-grandchildren: Andreas and Matti Hofer, Sofia and Hugo Nosti. She is survived, as well, by her cousin Charlotte Miller, of Ponte Vedra, FL and daughter Connie Triano and her husband Donald, also of Ponte Vedra, FL. Gini and Charlotte grew up together in Hutchinson and view one another as sisters. During her years in Wichita, Gini was involved in many activities and many organizations and developed a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. She recently received her 75 year pin for membership in the DJ chapter of PEO.

She also served as a deacon at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, volunteered for Meals On Wheels, and was a lifelong member of Petroleum Women. The family wishes to thank caregivers at Larksfield Assisted Living, Larksfield Health Care Center, and Harry Hynes Hospice. Their kind and loving attention greatly enriched final days. Memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 pm Friday, December 29 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 Webb Road. In lieu of flowers there are memorials with Meals On Wheels and the Wichita Art Museum.

Services by Broadway Mortuary. Gilbert, Kathleen (Kathy) age 90, passed away peacefully at the Kansas City Hospice House on December 20, 2017. Born in Wilmore, Kentucky to Erven and Martha (Stoeltzing) Reep, she spent her formative years in a variety of small towns in Northeastern Kansas and Southern Nebraska where her father served as a minister to several rural congregations. After attending Bethany Nazarene College, she moved to Wichita as a young bride with her husband, Dick Gilbert.

Here they raised their family while she also pursued her passions of gardening and supporting various missions throughout the world. After raising her children, she worked for many years as a school secretary for the Wichita Public Schools. She loved her job and, in particular, enjoyed her interactions with the children she served. She was known in her neighborhood for her large and bountiful vegetable garden from which she sold produce for over 50 years. In her later years she donated the proceeds of her garden sales to a variety of charitable causes.

She particularly loved to support schools and medical relief for children in underserved areas. She had a quick wit, a wry sense of humor, and a country saying to fit most any situation. Even in her last years when her short-term memory had faded, she kept those around her laughing with her never-ending humor. She was preceded in death by her husband James Richard (Dick) Gilbert and her daughter Lynette Kaye Gilbert. She is survived by her daughter Kristen Knoettgen (Overland Park, KS), her son Stan Gilbert and wife Marianne (Bellingham, WA), her grandchildren Ashley Basse-Lusebrink and husband Thomas (Ettlingen, Germany), Paul and wife Rachel, Abby and Elizabeth Knoettgen (all of Kansas City), Reece Gilbert (Los Angeles, CA) and Jesse Gilbert (Salt Lake City, Utah), and great grandchildren Julia and Finn Knoettgen (Kansas City, MO).

There will be a visitation at First Church of the Nazarene (Wichita, KS) at 10:00 on Friday, December 29, followed immediately by a memorial service at 11:00. Interment will take place at the Old Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to World Vision International. Herrman, Ronald Dean 70, passed away Thur Dec 21, 2017 with his family by his side. Ron was saved and baptized at Bethel Baptist Church in Wichita.

He was born in Wichita, to Herbert J. and Zela M. (Sibley) Herrman. He is preceded in death by his father; Herbert J. Herrman and step-father; Earl L.

Parker. He is survived by his mother; Zela (Jack Brewer) Parker, son; Ricky, dau; Charlotte, sisters; Gloria Criner, Eva Herrman, Roberta (Bobby) Eberhardt, Phyllis (Larry) Jones, Teresa (Jesse) Moncrief, cousin; Don (Julie) McKee, aunt; Helen McPherson, lifelong friends; Robert (Peggy) Chrismon and many nieces and nephews. Soar like an Eagle Brother! Herrman, Ronald Dean Howe, Shirley J. 74, was surrounded by her family when she went home to be with the Lord December 23, 2017. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Louise Touchatt.

She is survived by her soulmate of 28 years, Jerry Boyd; her brothers, Gale W. (Kathy) Touchatt, Robert L. (Lori) Touchatt; and sister, Sharon K. Ward of Delaware. She has 5 nephews, 1 niece, 9 great nieces and 4 great nephews.

Shirley was a retired employee of Hormel, she loved sunflowers, traveling, taking pictures, and tending to her flower gardens. Mitchell, Wanda Jean (Sumpter) passed away peacefully on 20 December 2017 in Wellford, South Carolina after a long illness. She was born on 12 November 1931 in Garden City in Finney County, Kansas, to David Asa and Ada Della (Roy) Sumpter.

She grew up in Wichita, Kansas. After graduating from Central High School, Wanda completed nurses training at St Francis Hospital in Wichita. She lived in Garden City, Kansas; Wichita, Kansas; Casablanca, Morocco; San Antonio, Texas; Ziegler, Illinois; El Dorado, Kansas; North Little Rock, Arkansas; Cabot, Arkansas; Austin, Texas; Woodland Shores near Afton, Oklahoma; and Wellford, South Carolina. Wanda spent most of her adult life devoted to the care of others working as a registered nurse. She nursed her parents for nine years after their health failed.

She took great pleasure spending time with beloved family members who lived all over the country. She was always ready to help neighbors, family, friends and strangers. She volunteered with various organizations including the American Heart Association, the Red Cross, the Veterans Administration Hospital in North Little Rock, and as a Girl Scout Leader. Wanda enjoyed rollerskating, watching birds, gardening and growing potted plants, especially cactus. She is survived by her children: Barbara (Mitchell) Cole of Seattle, Washington; Ronald Eugene Mitchell of Langley, Oklahoma; Vickie Lynn (Mitchell) Branson of Marble, Colorado; David Charles Mitchell of Wellford, South Carolina; Della Jean (Mitchell) Cole of Lonsdale, Arkansas; her sister, Carol Sue (Sumpter) Hirsh of Wichita, Kansas; her sister-in-law, Lois Sumpter of Wichita, Kansas; brother-in-law, Gene Hirsh of Wichita, Kansas; sister-in-law, Doris Myers of Paducah, Kentucky; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Ms Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents, David Asa and Ada Sumpter of Wichita, Kansas; her husband, Roy Edmund Mitchell; her brother, David LeRoy Sumpter; and her son, Terry Allen Mitchell. Wanda was a devoted Christian her whole life long. The service will be on Sat, Dec 30 at 11:00 in the chapel at College Hill United Methodist Church at 2930 1st St In Wichita, KS. Bobby had a good heart and a kind spirit. He liked to spend time with his family and go to the casino. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Viola Preston; brother, James Preston; and sister, Sharon Taylor. Bobby is survived by his daughters, Sylvia (Sonny) Bosley and Sheila Preston; sister, Susie (Larry) Neff; grandchildren Edward Bosley III, Angela Bosley and Briana Bosley; and great granddaughter, Sophia Bosley. Ridder, Sister Helen, ASC 82, was born July 20, 1935 in Derby, Kansas to John and Agnes (Abt) Ridder, and eternal rest on Dec. 22, 2017. She professed her First Vows on July 1, 1952. Occupations throughout her lifetime include former elementary school teacher at St. Margaret Mary and All Saints, Wichita; Ellinwood, KS; Andale, KS; Marienthal, KS; Roggen, CO; Elk City, OK; Ness City, KS; Angelus, KS.

She was a pastoral minister in Spearville, KS; Snyder, NE; Dell City, TX; Pecos, TX; San Antonio, TX; Carlsbad, NM. She did family and Counseling at Edgewood, St. Louis, MO; Cedar Vale Treatment Center, Wichita; and Acuto Center, Wichita. She worked for the care of the earth at Earthworks, Plymouth, IN and Matfield Green, KS. She provided various services at the ASC Center, Wichita, KS.

Survivors include brother, Jerome (Jerry) Ridder, (Patricia) of Goddard, KS; friends and colleagues; Sisters of the ASC Community. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Mary Clark (Myron); Ester Oliverson (Charles); Anita Ridder; brothers, Thomas (Jeanne), Lawrence (Mary), and David (Josephine) Ridder. The Welcoming was at 2 p.m. followed by the Wake Service at 7 p.m., Tuesday; The Mass of Christian Burial was held today at 10:30 a.m., all at Chapel of the New Covenant Adorers of the Blood of Christ, Wichita. A Memorial has been established for the retirement of Sisters, ASC, 1165 Southwest Wichita, KS.
