that date will be held for consideration for a future homesteading program Grant will fund Q-C Airport improvements Interstate News Service SPRINGFIELD Planned improvements at Quad City Airport will get under way now that the state has received a $24 million federal grant Gov James Thompson announced Friday Thompson said the grant will include funding to: Expand the terminal building to the west for additional passenger space Pay part of the cost to develop a new air cargo facility Improve the security system for tigher control of airport grounds and Recondition a fire-crash rescue truck and buy a snow plow A total of $37 million in improvements are planned over the next few years the governor said Federal funds which are channeled through the state will cover most of the cost he said Quad-Cities Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in Illinois and continues to provide good air service from northwest Thompson said in a statement improvements are important to continue the economic growth of the area and to attract businesses and industiy 1978 more than $23 million in federal and state fonds have been invested in the Quad-Cities Airport in an effort to maintain position as a leader in Death of Davenport man investigated DAVENPORT Davenport police said today they are investigating the circumstances leading to the death of an 18-year-old Davenport man whose body was found in a ditch on Highway 22 between Interstate 280 and River Drive Douglas Nelson Sindt of 5204 31st SL Davenport was pronounced dead at the scene by Acting Medical Examiner Dr Paul Hartmann and then was taken to St Hospital according to police reports Police believe he died from injuries suffered in a possible hit-and-run motor vehicle accident An autopsy determined that Mr Sindt died from massive head and internal injuries police said Evidence was present to suggest that Mr Sindt was hit by a car said police Police said they responded to a call at 6:49 am Saturday that a man was down in a ditch on Highway 22 The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim had been walking southbound along the left-hand shoulder of Highway 22 when he was struck from behind by a southbound vehicle about a quarter of a mile north of the 1-280 bridge according to a news release The report said the impact threw the victim down into the center median where he was discovered by people driving along Highway 22 Police believe the accident occurred sometime after midnight Saturday Investigators said Saturday night they are continuing to check evidence and other information Mr Sindt was the first motor vehicle traffic fatality in Davenport this year said police Woman arrested for theft DAVENPORT An 18 year-old Davenport woman was arrested Saturday in conncection the theft of $197 from the Crescent Laundry 1303 Grant St Bettendorf Amy Katheleen Larson 3124 Davenport Ave was arrested by Bettendorf police following a report by the owner of the laundry He made a report to the
