CONVOCOM a regional educational consortium include Black Hawk College Moline Western Illinois University Macomb Sangamon State University Springfield and Bradley University and WTVP channel 47 in Peoria DURING THE past year the consortium has expanded to include Deere Company Moline St Ambrose College Davenport MoorMan Manufacturing Com On May 8 a record crowd of 160 attended the Mid America Economica Development Council (MAEDC) annual conference via CONVOCOM The conference which had met in previous years in such cities as Chicago Milwaukee and Cleveland was convened at the Springfield Hilton This MAEDC conference was the first to be televised are making tremendous progress both in developing a consortium and in building a telecommunications Gruebel said and public affairs programming between CONVOCOM members WIU Bradley Sangamon State and WTVP channel 47 first noncommercial educational television station WJPT channel 14 in Jacksonville is now operational On March 14 CONVOCOM received via satellite and distributed on the first phase of its microwave network a live video teleconference from the University of Virginia and Oklahoma State University Quad-Cities Macomb and Quincy In April CONVOCOM received delivery of an aluminum shelter for Quincy transmitting equipment Gruebel said the Federal Aviation Administration is presently studying proposed tower site in Quincy and a construction permit is dependent on FAA approval The tower will be located on a farm just east of Quincy CONVOCOM has awarded bids and is awaiting fabrication and delivery of the towers for Carthage and Quincy and delivery of the transmitting equipment for Quincy Gruebel said he still expects the noncommercial educational television station in Quincy to be operational at low power on CONVOCOM the West Central Illinois Educational Telecommunications Corporation has received delivery of equipment valued at $541587 for second phase construction linking Quincy and the Quad-Cities to the telecommunications network in Peoria Spring-field Macomb and Jacksonville OF equipment and phase two construction remains on schedule" said Jerold Gruebel CONVOCOM executive director The equipment
