THE ARGUS, Rock Island, Wednesday, May 23, 1979 Junior Women give awards, install officers at banquet By JACKIE SLATKOW (Argus woman's writer) Officers were installed and several special presentations were made when the Junior Women's Club of Rock Island held its annual banquet last evening at O'Melia's Supper Club in Rock Island. The new officers are: Mrs. Julia Hollingsworth, Taylor Ridge, president; Mrs. Jeannie Nau, vice president; Mrs. Sandee Ellis, recording secretary; Mrs.

Sharryn Schroeder, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Barbara Carter, treasurer, and Mrs. Diane Christensen, registrar, all of Rock Island. After the buffet dinner, members were entertained by "'The Seventh En-. a barbershop quartet from Davenport, who presented a medley of songs.

Mrs. Linda Stone of Moline, the retiring president, conducted a short business meeting before the new officers were installed and presented individual awards and gifts to club members for their outstanding work throughout the year. A special presentation of a check in the amount of $950 was presented to Mrs. Kathy Paulson, president of the Illowa Chapter of Guilds for Infant Survival, which is the club's state Junior project. Diane Christensen was acknowledged for being chosen as the "Outstanding New Junior in the 14th district." Mrs. Marilyn Galley was given a special service award for her contributions to the club over the last several years. The club's contributions, totaling over $3500, were announced as follows: Civic Improvement Project (for Mel McKay Park), Juvenile Diabetes, $175; Franciscan Pediatrics (in memory of Anne Lelonek), $175; Spina Bifida Research, $150; American Lupus Society, $150; Hauberg Civic Center, $100; Quad -City Women's Center, $100; New Hope Lodge, $100, and the Assault Counseling Center in Rock Island, $100. Others included the Crippled Children's Foundation, $80; Winter Olympics, $50; Brain Research, $50; First United Methodist Church, Rock Island, $50; Service Patient, Cancer Research, $25; CARE, $25; Thanksgiving Basket, $21.87, SIDS, $950, and Children's Research Foundation, (State Junior Project), $215. The Junior Woman's Club of Rock Island has been awarded for its service and involvement in the community by receiving recognition at various district and state meetings and conventions.

The installation of officers was held last evening at trict Illinois Federation of Women's Club Convention held at Short Hills Country Club in East Moline last month the club received: first place for the GFWC Junior Project for Abused Persons, first place for the IFWC Junior Project for SIDS, first place for Health Department and first place for work in the conservation department. First place awards were given to the club at the district convention last month at Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline for: overall participation in the Environmental Action Division of the Conservation Department, Project SHARE, 3210 23rd Avenue, Moline 2301 16th Street, Moline SouthPark Shopping Mall, Moline U.S. Highway 67 3rd Avenue, Milan the club's annual banquet at O'Melia's Supper Club in Rock Island. Officers from the local auxiliary elected to district posts are: Colette Plum, senior vice president; Helen Neemers, chaplain, and Mrs. A.

E. Welliver, secretary. They were installed by past district president, Laura Belle Gibbons, Rock Island, assisted by the Orion color team. Mrs. Myers appointed Mrs.

Plum, membership chairman; Mrs. Leola Simms, junior girls unit chairman, and Mrs. Gibbons, public relations chairman. Two Lannoo Post members received district Men-Gals picnic The Men and Gals Dance Club will have a Memorial Day picnic at 12 noon Monday at Lincoln Park, Rock Island. On June 3 there will be a dance from 6 to 10 p.m.

at the VFW Hall with Al appointments. They are Henry J. Therrien, chief of staff, and Luther Mellott, chairman of Sons of VFW. Therrien is officer of the day and Mellott, commander, of Post 1303. The post and auxiliary received an award on their Poppy display.

Both groups also received membership citations. In the local auxiliary, citations and cash awards were given on membership and publicity. Mrs. Welliver, publicity chairman of auxiliary 1303, received a publicity citation. Reception for A.
