The soil, in this vicinity, is of the richest kind; and grains and vegetables, especially squashes, pumpkins and beets, yield enormously. There are some large manufacturing interests here and near town; the sloughs from the bay approach near enough to render transportation by water easy.

The removal of the seat of justice to Oakland had a paralyzing effect, for a short time, upon the business interests and improvements in San Lean-dro, but the town is steadily grow specimens, botanical specimens, specimens from the mountains and mounds of the valley, which he sold to the Wabash College, Indiana, for $5,000.
