on Thursday, April 21, 2011, at First Baptist Church Cemetery, Hudson Street, Winnsboro, conducted by the Reverend Mark Chapman and the Reverend Brian Ogburn. Fol- lowing the service, the family will receive friends in the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Winnsboro (Junction of Hwy 34 and Hwy 321). Mrs. Coleman, widow of the late Julian Kinloch Coleman, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at the Rice Estate in Columbia where she had resided for the past six years. Daughter of the late Worth and Ma- ry Hendrick Baker, she was born on September 27, 1915, in Mt.

Crog- han, SC. She attended public schools in Mt. Croghan and gradu- ated from Winthrop College in 1937 with a BA in Elementary Edu- cation and French. Upon gradua- tion she began a teaching career that spanned 37 years. In 1938 she married Julian Coleman.

Following Mr. service in the US Navy during WWII, they resided for a brief time in Columbia before moving to Winnsboro in 1947. Mrs. Coleman taught elementa- ry school and high school French in Winnsboro for more than 33 years. She was admired by her students for her inspirational competence and professionalism.

A staunch pa- triot, she actively served in the La- dies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as a poll manager during Winnsboro elec- tions. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Adult Class Sunday School for ma- ny years. Mr. Coleman, a graduate of Clemson College, brought her into his circle of Clemson friends; and with them they shared many happy occasions following Clem- son athletic events. Mrs.

Coleman is survived by her daughter Mary Coleman Johnson and her husband John of Winnsbo- ro; two granddaughters, Martha and husband Nicholas of Evanston, IL and Helen Denny and husband Michael of Charlotte, NC; one grandson, John Johnson III of Charlotte, NC; and seven great- grandchildren, Liam, George, and John and Fred, Mary, James, and Martha Denny; one sis- ter, Lois Gourdin of Kingstree, SC; and one brother, Roger Baker of Edgefield, SC. She was prede- ceased by two sisters, Evelyn Baker and Marian Smith. Mrs. Coleman will be remembered by her family and friends for her patience, sweet disposition, and sense of humor. The family extends appreciation to the staff of Rice Estate for their care of Mrs.

and Ida M. Darling. A graduate of Hope High School in Providence, Norm served in World War II with the 13th Air Force par- ticipating in combat missions in the South Pacific. He retired in 1983 from South Carolina Electric and Gas Co. with 36 years of service as Director of Community Services.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Clarkson Darling; his son, Stephen Edward Darling and daughter-in-law, Denise Ho- well Darling; grandchildren, Julia Darling Gore and her husband, Thomas Kidder Gore, Edward McCrady Darling and Elizabeth Rushton Darling. E. King, died Monday, April 18, 2011. Born in Sumter, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Danner and Kathleen Keefe Heidtman. She graduated from Florence High School in 1937 and Winthrop Col- lege in 1941. She taught 33 years in Chesterfield and Darlington Coun- ty Schools and was a lifetime mem- ber of SCEA and NEA.

She was a member of McBee United Method- ist Church, the UMW, taught many years of Sunday School, and direct- ed and sang in the choir. Mrs. King was as an active member of WIFE that was founded in Bishopville and SC State Farm Bureau. During the last seven years of her life, she resided at the United Methodist Manner of the Pee Dee in Florence, SC. She was an active member of the choir and volunteered in the Reminisce Gift Shoppe.

She loved watching her grand- children play sports, cheer and march in the band as well as cheer- ing on the Clemson Tigers. George Eugene Miller, 71, of Leland, NC passed away unexpectedly on Sunday April 17, 2011.

George Miller was born in Har- risburg, PA in 1939. He served in the United States Air Force for 24 years and retired at the rank of Master Sergeant. After retiring from the Air Force, George man- aged Supply Operations at Sunny Point Military Ocean terminal and retired in 1998. He was married to Mary Lou Funderburk of Hartsville, SC for 53 years. George and Mary Lou had 3 sons and two grandsons.

He was a compassionate and devoted hus- band, as well a very loving father to his 3 sons. His two grandsons were the delight of his life. He enjoyed helping others and was an avid out- doorsman. He is survived by his wife of nearly fifty-four years, Mary Lou Funderburk Miller; sons, Tim Mill- er and wife, Rebecca of Clayton, NC, Toby Miller of Paducah, Ken- tucky and Tom Miller and wife, Al- isha, of Leland, NC; two grandchil- dren, Aaron Eugene Miller and Ethan Eugene Miller; sister, Pat Warble of Harrisburg, PA and un- cle, Alfred Miller. The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m.

James Kenneth Savelle BATESBURG Services for James Kenneth Savelle, 82, of 114 S. Rid- gell Batesburg, will be held at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Cha- pel at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, April 21, with Rev. Richard Powell officiat- ing. Entombment will follow in Christ the Good Shepherd Mauso- leum with a military escort.

Mr. Savelle was born in Vicks- burg, Mississippi, a son of the late Marvin A. and Vena Wallace Sa- velle. He was married to the late Mrs. Marian Patricia Savelle.

He was a member of the Calvary Bap- tist Church of Vicksburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Johnnie Savelle, and one daughter, Ann Kilgore. Mr. Savelle served twenty six years in the U. S.

Marine Corps from the end of World War II. Among his many awards were the Air Medal with 3 stars, Presidental Unit Citation, Navy Meritarious Unit, Good Conduct Medal, Amer- ican Campaign Medal, American Defense Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Occupation Service Medal, Vietnam Service with 3 Stars, Kore- an Service Medal United Nations, Gallantry Cross Re- public of Vietnam and a Campaign Medal Republic of Vietnam. After retirement he moved his family to this community and joined the Leesville Police, and as a Patrolman. He advanced to Chief of Police, and held that position sever- al years. Mr.

Savelle was a member of the Marine Corps League, American Legion Post and was a Life Member of V.F.W. Post Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Malinda) Maroney, of Leesville; two sons, Don Kenneth of Big Fork, MT; Jay Kevin of Ka- lispell, MT; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 P.M. on Wednes- day, April 20, at Milton Shealy Fu- neral Home.

Milton Shealy Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Pauline Jackson Shuler SUMTER Pauline Jackson Shul- er, 85, widow of Jimmy Shuler, en- tered into rest on Sunday, April 17, 2011. Born April 2, 1926 she was a daughter of the late Lucius Ken- neth Jackson and Kate Cummings Jackson. She lived her entire life in Sum- ter County with her formative years spent in the Dalzell community. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1943 as class president and salutatorian.

She furthered her education at Columbia College, graduating in 1947 with a degree in education. She taught briefly in Greeley- ville, SC and then returned to Sum- ter County to teach in the Sumter county schools and spent five years teaching at Hillcrest High School and then 25 years teaching at Mayewood High School. She re- tired from her education profession after over 30 years in the Sumter School District schools. As a se- nior in high school she was voted all around and in- fluential She is best remem- bered and described by her peers from 1943 with a simple poetic phrase, see her sweet and She was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church. Surviving are three sons, James Franklin Shuler, Jr.

and Ken- neth Paul Shuler, both of Sumter, and Herbert Woodward Shuler and daughter-in-law, Lucy Connolly Shuler of Augusta, GA; three grandchildren, Lauren Eliza- beth Shuler, Jackson Woodward Shuler and David Hugh Shuler; one sister, Florence Jackson Bur- kett of Dalzell; and a number of nieces and nephews. DORCHESTER Donald F. Sullivan, 55, of Dor- chester, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Claudine Watson Sullivan and the late Donald F. Sullivan, Sr. Rocky was a retired Sergeant with the Department of Natural Re- sources.

He loved to hunt, fish and was an avid Carolina Gamecocks fan. Rocky loved being in the out- doors with his dog, Trey. He was a loving father, son and brother and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his son, Donald F. Sullivan, III of Colum- bia, his mother, Claudine Sullivan of Columbia, brother, Gary Sulli- van and wife Teresa of Ladson.

Rocky also leaves behind his dog, Trey. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. in McAli- ster-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek Chapel, 869 St. James Ave- nue. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m.

Tanner LEXINGTON William T.

Tanner, 65, of Lexington, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 17, 2011. He was born Decem- ber 11, 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia to Mid and Dessie C. Tanner. Mr. Tan- ner was a graduate of the Universi- ty of Georgia and an avid Bulldog fan.

He was the current chair of el- ders at Midlands Christian Church and was involved in many areas in the life of the church. He was a lov- ing and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always thinking of others needs before his own. He enjoyed spending time on the lake with his family and fishing with his grandsons who adored their He enjoyed restoring steam en- gines and working in his garden. He was employed with Hanson Brick for over 27 years. He is survived by his wife, Shar- on Tanner of 39 years; his children, Stephanie Brown (Kevin), Susan Smith (Paul), and Ashley Stirewalt (Matt); grandsons, Preston Brown and Wesley Smith; and his brother, Ronald Tanner (Jill).

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 503 Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Donald Henry Willer, parents Benjamin and Annie Louisa Lilley and youn- gest sister Annie Feaver.

She is sur- vived by daughter Laurel Gibson (Robt) of Columbia, SC, son Jay Willer (Beth Webb) of Stanards- ville, VA, granddaughter Suzana Merritt (Mark Leber) of Sandusky, OH, great-grandchildren Kayli Merritt of Columbia, SC and Allen and Brooke Leber of Sandusky, OH, sister Dorothy Kasack of Wil- mington, NC, nieces, nephews and friends throughout the US and rela- tives in England. Edna was born in Birmingham, England on September 8, 1917. She and her parents emigrated to Cana- da in 1918 and then to the United States in 1920, settling in Fremont, Ohio in 1922. She graduated high- est in her High School class in 1935 and highest again in Nursing School in 1967. She worked at Ohio Bell Telephone Co before her chil- dren were born and then as an LPN at Fremont Memorial Hospital un- til she retired.

She and Don loved traveling across the US. She also loved teaching Sunday School, singing, reading and coloring with her grandchildren. No Memorial or Interment serv- ices are planned. physical body has been donated to the USC Gift of Body Program to aid in med- ical research and teaching. The im- mediate family will have a private ceremony in Ohio in June.
