Part of its demonstrations was carried on out to the center of the arena as it showed th use of flags, buzzers, colored lights and other methods of signaling. Troop 190, Madawaska, won the prize for the best booth and display. The prize wa donated by J.

Penny Company of Caribou and consisted of a complete eooking and eating outfit for eight Scout era. The Scouts to this Troop had a Urge blowup map of the area around Madawaska which they made themselves. They gsve dem onstrations on the compass, the orientation of a map, the finding of true north and magnetic north and tha computation of declsna tlon. 7-Paul R. Lynch, agricultural Instructor of Presque Isle High school Is serving on the rules committee of nation-wide high school 87,000 arc welding award program sponsored by tha James F. Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation of Cleveland, The purpose of the essay contest, he says, is to encourage high school students to study how Arc welding can contribute to better farm operation and maintenance. Lynch says that although the competition la nation-wide, entries ar not received to such large quantltlea that students should feel that they do not hav a chance. He feels that students in Maine hava an excellent chance to receive some, of the 100 awards to be made, ranging from 825 to 8600.

Th ficout-O-Rama opened with the massing of flag and posting of colors by Troop 196 of- Van Buren. The large audience seated itself around tha outer edge of the area to observe tha candlelight ceremonies and court of honor to charge of Jasper Narsworthy, the Rev. Gerald Wyman and Waldo Hardison, all of Caribou. The following boys received their star award from th Rev. Leo Oal lant and J.

Troop 170, Mzpleton, had a booth given over to flag etiquette with demonstrations on the floor as to the correct methods and respect to the flag to marching formation. PIONEERING TOPIC Troop 171, Presque Isle, had display using pioneering as Its topic.

It used poles and rope lashings to mskt up full size bridges and towers. Troop 173, Mars Hill, demon strated proper methods of packing for a hike with a display of needed materials along th front of the booth, Troop 174, Presque Isle, demon' strated how to follow commands Coming Events AT HOULTON Portia Rebekeh Lodge will meet Wednesday evening at the I.O.OF. halL There will be a Christmas tree with distribution of gifts and a program. Refreshments will be served with. Mrs.
