The encampment of the National Guard has taken a good many of the local sporting men ut of! the city, and as a conae-queuce there ia a scarcity of local events. THE WHEEL. The number of wheelmen in this city is increasing rapidly, and the members of the Oakland Club arfeproviding themselves with new uniforms. A wheelman who has just returned froan a bicycle trip to Cloverdale, reports the rads between Sn Rafael and Petaluma in jrood condition, but between Petaluma and Santa -Rosa they are very bad. From Santa Rosa to Cloverdale they are spleh-" did, except half a mile each side of VVind-'' eor.

The cup is the gift of John V. Carroll, who has placed it at the disposal of the management to be run for. OX. LAND AN WAT1R.

The past week has been comparatively dull for the cycling world. The First and Second Lieutenants of the Oakland Wheelmen were out on their ma. chines. Four young men took a trip to Center-ville and back through Nile, making in alt over sixty miles. They were accompanied by an equestrian whose horse became badly used up.

The Idle Hour has taken up her old mooring in the mud. The Emerald is off on a cruise to Sauce-lito and other points of interest. The Carmelita has put into Montevideo leaking. The owner has telegraphed to have her seat back 'to New York, where her name will be chaeged and the yacht said. This move is in all probability owing te the sad death of his wife.

We have been requested to rectify the mistake made in bur columns week in styling the canoe Black Vioarf the Blackbird. Ths yawl Bonita was bsaten by the Ripple in a "ecrub'race yesterday. This has caused a great many comments to be made by the experts. The sail-boat Sailor Boy has been refit' ed and undergone thoronga repairing. Anew centerboard and spars have been added.

This style of boat is slowly com-inj into nse. The Oakland Canoe Club has a-sumed a vary an tagouiatie attitude; it is a case of uau ben vs. corporation. The canes Talisman has Veen sold to a aew member, and the fast little Alaskan-skin cases has at last found an owner. The aoeg of the curlew is heard in the mad, way do wain ths Alameda marh.

THB DIAMOND FIELD. The Oreenhood and Moran Club yesterday added another sueceas to its losg'list of victories, the Enterprise nine of San Francisco this time being the viotims, A large number of spectators witnessed the game, aad were net disappointed in seeing a well-played malch. The spectators were very eothnsiaatip throughout the Drama, and every gaod play was vociferously applauded. Gurastte'e eSsotive delivery proved too much for the visitors, bnt four --scattered hits being made eff him during the entire game. On the other hand, Ed.

Bennett was hit safely fifteen time, with the result of an earned runs, one being a home run by Nolan when twe men were on bases. Both catchers did excellent work behind bat, and Gove aad Xxing did some brilliant in the tild. Ryan, as asnal, hekl dovn the tirst bag in good style, and Thornton made sums clsver steps at short.
