McLaughlin received a letter from Col Theodore Milton their son's commanding officer in which he enclosed a copy of a letter regarding F-O McLaughlin written by the clerk of the Parish Council in Walgrave Northampton England The letter read: am desired by the Parish Council of Walgrave to convey to you the deep and grateful aympathy ot the council In the recent calamity which befell the crew of one of your planea when passing over this parish "The Parish Council and the inhabitants of the village of Walgrave feel not merely a grateful appreciation of the services which the Forces are giving in the present struggle for freedom but they recognize that the terrible fatalities in the recent disaster may have been largely due to the gallantry of the crew by remaining at their post in
