in the GGth year of his age. Mr. Boyette was born in Edgecombe county, near Lawrence, August 8, 1S33. He came to this community some years before the war and engaged at one time In the photographer's art. When the war broke out he enlisted in the Scotland Neck cavalry under Capt.

P. Edmonston, and served four years as a good and faithful soldier. Soon after the war he married Miss Powell, of Martin county, and lived in this community in the saw-mill business until about twenty years ago when he moved to Scotland Neck, and had been a resident of this town ever since. As a result ol the marriage there were four children, three daughters and one son, all of whom survive him. His wife died at her home in Scotland Neck five or six years ago.

At the time of his death he was on a visit to one of his daughters, Mrs. J. L. Harris, of Spring Hope. He had been in feeble health for some time, and the evening ol his death he had retired from the supper table and had returned to the dining room to take some medicine when he fell suddenly to the floor, gasped and was dead.

The remains were brought to Scotland Neck and interred in the Episcopal cemetery Friday, May 12th. Mr. Boyette had been a consistent member of the Baptist church of this place for several years and had always been known to be a good and upright citizen. He leaves to his children the rich legacy of a good nsrnefor honesty, sobriety, kindness and an exemplary walk as a Christian. Ha had many friends throughout this section whom The Commonwealth joins iin sympathy for the stricken family in this hour of sorrow and affliction.

One who has not seen Scotland Neck in quite a good while said this week that the town is making considerable improvements. It issometimes thought by those who stay here all the time and ece everything as it comes along that the town is not making much progress, but to one who sees it only once a year, many improvements are observable. And all who come say that Scotland Neck beats all the other towns in beauty. a Si Pickles, Pineapples, and Peaches. My shelves are filled with a new supply.
