THE EVF.NING TIMES and Community Eileen Westf all, Editor 1 Waverly WCTU Hears Speaker Mrs. Damon Lanphear, director of temperance and missions for the Waverly W.C.T.U. was the speaker at a meeting of that unit Tuesday at the Albertson building. Mrs. Earl Holbrook, president, conducted the devotional service and prayer.

Mrs. Lanphear read a letter from Mrs. Lillian Dickson who is associated with a mission at Taipei, Formosa, telling of the needs and work with the Aborigines in that country. She noted that the W.C.T.U. is organized in 70 countries and told of the work of the W.C.T.U.

in Mexico, West Indies, Germany, Austria, Japan and other countries. The meeting closed with the Aaron-ic benediction. Local Air Force Recruiter Gets Award for Work T-Sgt. Ned Hessler, local Air Force recruiter, was recently lauded for his recruiting efforts for the month of April with the "Recruiter of the Month" award. Sgt.

Hessler was presented with a framed certificate and a symbolic cardboard model of the "Northern Tier" of the Detachment 208 area In Pennsylvania. The award was presented by Senior M-Sgt. Harry II. Heagy, operations supervisor, at an informal presentation at Detachment Headquarters at New Cumberland, Pa. Sgt.

Hessler said that he was just doing his job but has his. sights set on future production records. Now located in his new office at 424 South Main Athens, Sgt. George Edsall and Mrs. Case, co-hostesses. Prior to the adjournment of the meeting, Mrs. Bloom announced that the June meeting would be in the form of a picnic luncheon to be held at Waverly Glen on June 12. Ernhard Sjostrom And Wife Note 55 th Anniversary Mr.

and Mrs. Ernhard Sjostrom of 202 Bridge Athens, are quietly observing their 55th wedding anniversary today at their home. Mr. Sjostrom is a retired employe of the Ingersoll-Rand Company in Athens. Mrs.

Sjostrom was employed by the Blue Swan Mills for 25 years. He was born in Gothenberg, Sweden, and came, to this country in 1908. His wife was born in Jasper, N. Y. i.

They were married in Miles City, May 28, 1910 and are the parents of 10 children. They have 37 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Their children are: Mrs. Eveleen Rothwell of Utah, Mrs. Fredrika Hotalen of Sayre, Mrs.

Kathryn Fryer of Avis, E. William Sjostrom, of Sayre, Mrs. Urania Speciale of Horseheads, N. Mrs. Dorothy Caputo of Massachusetts, Mrs.

Helen Gentile of Waverly, Mrs. Olive Johnson of Athens, Mrs. Lorraine Barnhart of Waverly and S-Sgt. Orval Sjostrom who is stationed with the U. S.

Air Force Japan. ver, attended the one in Atlantic City in 1961, and also the convention at Miami Beach 1963. Mr. Masteller resides with his wife, Edith, at 421 Ixler Waverly. The couple has five children.

Final Teenage Dance Is Tonight The final Teen-Age Dance of the season, sponsored by the Athens Recreation Teen Council, will be held tonight in the Ingersoll-Rand Employes Club. Dancing will be to the music of the Castlemen of Corning and will begin at 8 o'clock. A life membership in the Sayre Musician's Union Local 645 was awarded to Harold Masteller of Waverly, president of the local, at a recent meeting, Mr. Masteller join ed the Musician's Union in 1918 and has been a consistant member ever since. He has been on the executive board, has served as vice president and is currently president of the organization, a position he has held since 1960.

Mr. Masteller studied violin at the Ithaca Conservatory under William Coad, and played professionally many years, touring nationally with road shows, He was at one time a leader of his own band, a territory traveling band, and has played at all the major colleges in eastern United States. In 1957 he attended the national musician's union convention at Den Maddy Corral To Hold Show Herbert S. Madly Corral will stage its 20th annual Memorial Day horse show Sunday at the V.F.W. grounds beginning at 1:30 p.m.

and Mrs. Cecil C. Barnhart of the Waverly address are the bridegroom's parents. Rev. James Collea performed the double ring ceremony in a setting of white mums and palms for the candlelight service.

Leon Constanzer was organist. Sanora L. Howe of Elmira was maid of honor for her cousin. Brides maids were Sandra Brown of Wells-burg, cousin of the bride; Belva Howe of Elmira RD 2 and Mary Schneider of Waverly. Robert Carrier of Waverly served as best man.

Ushers were Edward Housel, brother of the bride, Leon Horton of Waverly, cousin of the bridegroom, and James Arey of Waverly. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor-length gown of white taffeta brocade featuring a scoop neckline, long pointed sleeves and a chapel train attached to an Empire waistline. Mrs. Barnhart, mother of the bridegroom, selected a navy blue and white three-piece ensemble which she accented with white accessories and a corsage of white butterfly roses. A reception was held at the Willits Lounge of the church immediately following the ceremony. When the couple left for their wedding trip, the bride was wearing a navy blue suit which she accented with red accessories and a white rose corsage. Both 'are 1964 graduate of Waverly High School.

Mr. Barnhart is serving with S.A. C. of the U.S. Air Force at Bunker Hill Air Force Basen Ind.

The couple will reside at Peru. Ind. The bride was entertained prenup-tially at a shower given by Mrs. Charles Rice in Waverly. Should the tour materialize, Scout House Band is expected to perform in some of England's top show business theatres.

"I think what impressed Sir Ralph most was the band's excellent discipline, their neatness and of course their ability as musicians," said Mr. Blum. Sir Ralph Reader, an English show business personality, was accorded a royal welcome when he visited Preston, Canada, for the purpose of auditioning the band. "Your boys are fabulous," Sir Ralph told Wilf Blum, director. "They will be a smash hit in Eng- Mr. Reader said he was 100 per cent sold on Scout House and the possibility of the tour.

Negotiations for Mr. Reader to hear the band got under way late in 1964 when the band's representative in England. Don Truman, notified Mr. Blum that he had secured Mr. Reader's interest in Scout House.
