Economic Development Corporation have expressed an interest in having the industrial developers Tepco Inc meet with them to explore the possibilities of establishing a site or sites in Washington County for a proposed 2000-acre industrial park equipped with a nuclear power facility that would generate upwards of six megawats Speaking before a meeting of the Washington County Economic Development Corporation Tuesday night at the federal building in Machias Laurence Smith of Jonesport reported he has made contact with Tepco attorney Kenneth Blaisdell of Ellsworth to inform him that the county chamber was willing to make any arrangements necessary to bring in Tepco and to present them- to the proper county or town representatives interested in the park As a director of the county chamber Smith said the attorney would relay the request to Tepco officials Wednesday or Thursday and report back to him Speaking also as a director on the County Economic Development Corporation Board Laurence Smith of Jonesport In discussing thfe proposed east-west highway for the coun ty Calais Chamber of Com merce President Richard Burgess explained that the Calais chamber had contributed a total in support of an east-west highway chairman to attend the highway committee meetings on a state level Calais City Manager Louis Ayoob has been serving as the committeeman through chamber funds raised by contribu tions from the Georgia Pacific Corporation and other sources It was voted by the development group to contact businessmen on a county-wide basis In sustaining Ayoob as the spokesman
