Yesterday forenoon Poundraaster O'Connell and bis men captured thiae goats belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Vertue, who live in further East Oakland, upon the confines of Fruit Vale. They had hardly started away with the impounded animals when Mr. Vertae appeared upon tha scene and threatened to whip the whole Poandmaster's outfit in personal combat.

Still that didn't release the goate. Then he threatened to have O'Connell and his'deputies arrested. "Arrest away," said O'Connell, and the coats remained in Threats availed nothing. But during the afternoon Mrs. Vertue appeared at the door of the Pound and presented a note from Officer Downey, commending her to the Poundmaster's consideration.
