In the playoffs, he had a 3-1 record and at one point hurled 28 straight scoreless innings as he played a big part in the drive to the city championship and regional finals. As a junior in 1976, Willis compiled a 10-3 record for a combined 23-5 record his two years on the varsity. In both his junior and senior seasons he won his first 10 decisions without a loss.
