Batile, of this county. It appears that Austin had occasionally feigned insanity, as an excuse to keep from work; and haying failed to work on Saturday last, he was ordered by Mr.

Battle on Monday morning to" go to work. Austin got a hoe, and returned to his master, who was standing near his house, and immediately attacked him, breaking his arm and bruising his head in such a shocking manner with the hoe, that he died in a few hours thereafter. Austin tried to make his escape, but was pursued and taken. Mr. Battle has left a family consisting of a wife and eight children, to inourn this sudden bWeavememt He vas an estimable citizen, industrious and enterprising, a kind master and a member of the Baptist church.

He had purchased Austin from his former owner, on his removal to Mississippi a lew years since, in consequence of owning his wife and children, and has been kind and forbearing to him; but his kindness has been repaid with the blackest ingratitude.
