good three-part story "Liars Guns and Mloney" is less dramatic than past "farscape" adventures but it does feraiure many surprises including two I never could have predicted And I'm waiting in suspended animation cr I mean suspense to see ho it all ends Sci-Fi sent me only the first two of the three episodes "Liars" focuses on Ka D'Argis efforts to find his son and I won't say anything else because the surprises make the story effective As D'Argo you could say this alien is part Klingon part poet Anthony Simcoe is doing some of his best acting And star Ben Browder will take you a lit further into the head of Cmdr John Crichton the only human on "Farscape" "'Farscape' is an alien reflection of different aspects (of people)" Browder said in an interview "John is trying to apply humanity rules to aliens "The aliens are generally well-rounded" he said "Farscape" is good at creating loose threads and takes its time to weave its plots In some ways it's more like a great long novel than a TV show "If there's a storyline unresolved we'll return to it" Browder said "There's a greater character arc-that we play out We still have (single-story) episodes but they're within that one continuing arc" "Farscape" is about Crichton a human astronaut who's thrown through a wormhole into the other side of the galaxy He teams up with other alien fugitives the Dclvian priestess Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan (Virginia Hey) Luxan warrior Ka D'Argo dethroned ruler Rygel XVI (voice of Jonathan Hardy) thief Chiana (Gigi Edgley) Sun and Pilot (voice of Lani John Tupu who also plays bad guy Capt Crais) They explore the Uncharted Territories aboard Moya a living ship In recent episodes D'Argo and Chiana have fallen in love And there's an on-again off-again romantic tension between Crichton and Sun At times they're close to a full-fledged relationship but they always back off at the last moment It's like a suspenseful waltz Will they or won't they get togeth er'1 "At some point we'll deal with it" Browder said "Farscape" producers have said the quality remains high because the show's Australian directors think of each story as a small movie rather than a TV episode I have to agree If "Farscape" were filmed in Los Angeles instead of Sydney I doubt we would see its extravagant use of sets on-location shots or plentiful aliens Hollywood would find a way to cut the budget "Farsdape" created by Rockne O'Bannon of "SeaQuest DSV" is much more adventurous in its locales nd its creatures than "Star Trek: Voyager" and other Hollywood-based sci-fi series What's more the series isn't afraid to make dramatic changes in its characters If something profound happens to a character in one episode that change doesn't magically disappear in later stories The story arc is strong and security number on the envelopes it mails to benefit recipients You may also wish to have other checks deposited electronically to prevent a thief from raiding your mailbox Do check your family's credit Part of the reason identity thieves get away with their crimes is the long lead time from when they commence their activities to when your family finds out about them This can be especially true when both spouses work and share the handling of financial matters The easiest way to keep on top of things is to routinely check your credit for anomalies For example if a credit report shows you applying for a loan or a credit card that you and your wife don't remember applying for this is a signal that something's wrong Use one of the three big credit-record firms: Equifax Experian and TransUnion You may have to pay for the report but it's worth it Do be diligent in selecting passwords Don't use your mother's maiden name as a security password for online financial transactions It's space "Farscape which takes no short cuts in quality easily ties with "The X-Files" as the best sci-fi show on TV The Burbank convention in August was a rare appearance of the entire cast away from Sydney Australia where the Jim Henson Co series is filmed "Farscape" which remains strong in the ratings recently had a brief break on Sci-Fi so the cable network could show movies instead of reruns It will be back with new episodes at 8 pm Friday with new episodes throughout January The Jan 27 season finale will be a cliffhanger The third season starts March 16 Friday's episode is the start of a Step inside the parlor of the 'Black Scorpion' By DAVE MASON Scripps Howard News Service "Black Scorpion" has a great hero trapped in a campy series and that could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the writers The series executive-produced and co-created by legendary director Roger Corman debuts at 7 pm Friday on Sci-Fi It's based on Corman's successful 1995 and 1996 "Black Scorpion" movies on Showtime You should check out some of the episodes but I can't recommend it for weekly viewing until I see more Like any comic-book adventure each story's strength depends on its
