OPEN 640 W. Broad St. attack on the Glen Alden Corporation for its alleged "irrespon-isible" request for an approximate 90 per cent reduction of 1964 assessments on its properties. I "The appeal of the Glen Alden i requesting 90 per cent tax reduc tion in 1964 taxes disgusts me," Commissioner Wideman declared, in his statement castigating the coal firm. Wideman also termed the coal firm an "irresponsible citizens." Glen Alden Corporation and four of its affiliates, or subsidiaries, Wednesday afternoon appealed to the Luzerne County Courts from assessments totalling $8,703,747 for 1964 They claimed the actual, or fair market value, of all properties was $2,338,233 and proposed the 1964 assessments be reduced $779,414, or approximately 90 per cent.

Rejected By Assessors The appeals recited that the coal firms were denied requested reductions by the county board of assessors on February 13, 1964.
