WEST VALLEY Bloomington grads almost blown into new role as adults By FLOYD RINEHART Sun Staff Writer BLOOMINGTON Mortarboards and lightweight graduation robes flipped and flapped in the wind as 178 seniors marched to their commencement ceremony. Graduates-to-be clung to the caps and clasped their cloaks tightly as an evening breeze whipped across the Bloomington High School Stadium as the Thursday event began. Perhaps the struggle helped lighten the apprehension some graduates felt as they moved to cut the cord of security as students and enter an unfamiliar world of adult responsibilities. The 1986 Class valdictorian Ga-briela Cardona expressed some of those fears in her talk before an audience of about 2,500 people. "Not everthing will be the same now," Cardona said, "But we have to carry on.

"There's apprehension in facing new challenges and new goals to achieve." Cardona said graduation means leaving the security of school, where decisions on future objectives were structured and made by adults. "Now, where we go and what we do will be our decisions," she said. The key to right decisions, she said is to, "stick by our values, follow our dreams and strive for excellence always." Tim Scott, another graduate, was more casual in his pre-gradua-tion comments. "These have been good years (at Bloomington High). But now I'm going to party, man."
