THURSDAY E2 THE FRESNO BEE-PRERUNTHE FRESNO BEE PRERUN 2 E2 Logical Page is THE FRESNO 16:48 Heather McLane: Sienna Miller was seen wearing what amounts to a yeti sweater, granny panties and tights to the after-party of the New York premiere of her film Who is Sienna Miller, you ask? the British chick who became famous after her boyfriend, Jude Law, cheated on her with the nanny. Then she became the British chick who may or may not have hooked up with Sean Puff Diddy Daddy Combs two weeks after his gave birth to his twins. And now the British chick who, well thing. Look, England. willing to accept Victoria Beckham on our shores only because a part-and-parcel deal with that hot husband of hers.

Please do not take this as an indication that we have an open-door policy on all of your manky slags. Not unless willing to make one hell of a trade, that is. Get the latest buzz all day on fresnobeehive.com. I was a happy day when Idiscovered the vast arrayof spices in the interna- tional-foods aisle at my supermarket. While the regular spices are located two aisles over (tiny spice jars with huge prices), in the ethnic section of the store, I found huge con- tainers of all kinds of spices from cinnamon to garlic powder for only a fraction of the price.

What a find! And given the following reader- submitted tip, we can find other bargains there as well. Vanilla extract: I love to bake, and one of my favorite ingredients is pure vanilla extract. I have found that Mexican vanilla packs double the punch of Ameri- can vanilla for half the price. You can find it in any grocery store on the Mexican or ethnic-foods aisle. Quick button fix: If you are at work or out in public and your button pops off, try to find a twist tie (the kind the closes a bread wrapper).

Tear the paper off, and use the wire in place of thread to secure the button until you get home. Cutting brownies: When you remove brownies from the pan, cut them with a pizza cutter. It zips right through. No muss. No fuss.

And it makes it easier to cut them straight. This works well with most bar cookies, too. Mending jeans: The metal button on my jeans came apart and fell off. Because this is not the kind of button that can be sewed on, I used Super Glue to affix the knob and back stud through the fabric. I let it set for a few days then washed and dried it.

It came through and is perfectly wearable. Calendars that last: I recycle my favorite calendars from year to year by printing a free calendar from PrintFree.com and taping it over the old one. I do this every month. I still get to enjoy the graph- ics, and the date is current. And I save even more when I print on the backside of previously printed paper.

Grocery bingo: had to halve our grocery budget this year and will use a system to do this. Before making my meal plan for the week, I check all of our cupboards, the garden and the freezer to see exactly what we already have. I try to plan our meals around these items and tick each one off the list as I incorporate it into a meal. I get a when every item is ticked off or every meal is based on what I have on hand. Cooling food: When I have a hot bowl of ramen noodles and want to cool them off without having to waste my breath blowing on the bowl, I just add an ice cube.

It makes a little more broth in the bowl and cools the noodles nicely. Write to Mary Hunt at P.O. Box 2135, Paramount, CA 90723 or unitedmedia.com. Sienna Miller second time the set has been revamped. The last makeover was eight years ago.

is my Belilty, KFTV news director, proudly says of the new look. what he created. The set now features three photos on the back walls representing the local agriculture, down- town and outdoor communi- ties. A black modified kidney bean-shaped desk is to the left of center. A stove, to be used in a future cooking segment, is to the right.

On the opposite side of the studio is a small stage. If you are one of the 19,000 viewers (according to the ratings numbers for Novem- ber) who watch the show, the most eye-catching change is the color scheme. The walls have been painted tan and cantaloupe. Belilty was looking for warm colors that would not be too overpow- ering. Warm and not overpowering is also the best way to describe the morning show that has been hosted by Lupita Lomeli for 16 of the 17 years it has been around.

Lomeli is proud of the new set. But she says the most important part of the morning show is making a connection with the viewers. Most of the guests at the dedication ceremony came to praise the station, not to be buried by the details of the makeover. Pamela Galicia, who plays violin in the mariachi band, talks about how the show has given the local group needed exposure. Javier Guzman says his group, Proteus always has been able to get its message about assistance to farm workers through the morning show.

Belilty says there will be no major changes made to the morning format. plays it coy when asked about how much the new set cost. she says with a smile. She elab- orate. The reporter can be reached at or at (559) 441-6355.
