Synod Meeting 'Nelson C. Cooper, Delta RD, Dies Deltaf-Nelson C. Cooper, Delta RD, died at the York hospital Saturday evening at 6:55 o'clock after a year's illness. He was 46 years old. He is survived by his wife.

Pauline Cooper, and eight children, Mrs. Paul Harrington, Whiteford, Mrs. Delmer McAllister, Delta, and Flora, Betty, Alvin, Marion, Rodman and Terry Cooper, all at home. American Day Service Held "I Am An American Day" observance held at Hanover. Army man talks on "Post-War Military Establishment." Hanover Veterans' organizations and townspeople yesterday heard an address by Lt.

Col. George A. Duerr, chief of the public information department, Public Information school, Carlisle barracks, on "The Post-War Military Establishment." Col. Duerr, who spoke at the community's "I Am. An American Day" observance in the State theatre, stated that he favors universal military training for the youth of America.

He listed characteristics of the American political and economic way of life and outlined U. S. military strength. Asserting that manpower will be essential should there be a future war, he said he does not believe that the world will be prepared for full-scale "push-button warfare" for several generations. In a special program sponsored by Harold H.

Bair Post 14, American Legion, Harold 'F. Little, commander, was master of ceremonies. Exercises opened with a rendition of "Stars and Stripes" by Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Dell, pianist and xylophonist.

Amvet Post 22 Color Guards Earl Shanabrook, George Gerrick, Milton C. Lynch and Raymond Smith, and American Legion Color Guards Henry Artley, John Sweit-zer, Bernard Noel and Donald Klunk advanced colors. The program also included: Invocation, Rev. Chester T. John B. Goodfellow Mrs. Martha R. Goodfellow, 74, wife of John B. Goodfellow, 34 Sprenkle avenue, died suddenly at her home yesterday at 9:30 a.

m. after an illness of several days. Death was caused by a heart attack. A daughter of the late John and Rebecca Fpwble Nott, Mrs. Goodfellow was married Aug.

16, 1894. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Willard J. Chambers, Hanover RD 4, and Mrs. Oliver C.

m. at the Frederick Bucher funeral home, Frederick street, by Rev. Dr. Harry Hursh Beidleman, pastor of St. Matthew's Lutheran church.

Interment will be in Rest Haven cemetery. Park To Open Green Pine park, George and Stock streets, will open at 8 p. m. today, weather permitting, with a free concert by the Knights of Pythias band, and a series of motion pictures to be presented by E. J.

J. Gobrecht, it was announced by A. M. Biddle, owner. Biddle said that the program is being presented without charge for young and old.

Scouts Deliver Circulars Borough residents Saturday received approximately 6,000 circulars prepared by the Hanover Community Recreation association to publicize the membership campaign which opens today. Distribution was executed by 16 local Boy Scouts from four troops with William O. Randall, Cone-wago district commissioner, as supervisor of the project. Two National Red Cross water jj satety turns, Heads Up and "Oars and Paddles," will be shown in cooperation with the accident prevention drive being conducted by the York county chapter. Annual election and installation of officers of the PTA will be held during the business session.

Birthday Party A birthday party was held re cently by William E. Lau, Legion apartments, in honor of Mrs. Lau, Games were played and refresh- ments were served. G. W. Welsh, pastor, on Sunday morning. This was the first time in the history of the church that a lay reader was called upon to read a sermon. The junior choir presented a cantata.

Pupils Honored As PTA Conducts Final Meeting At Hanover Hanover Closing exercises were conducted Friday at the High Street Elementary school for 36 sixth graders in conjunction with the final 1946-19-47 meeting of the school PTA. Youngsters honored at the observance were: Margaret Garland, Nancy Geiselman, Barbara Green, Valerie Honess, Phyllis Kitzmiller, Dolores Laughman, Janet Martz, Ruth Masenheimer, Myrtle Nace, Marlene Reindollar, Shirley Rohr-baugh, Sylvia Shanabrook. Services were conducted at the Harkins funeral home, Delta, by Rev. Paul Jones, pastor of White-ford Methodist church. Burial was in Slate Ridge cemetery. The pallbearers were: Charles Chalone, Dewey Bowman, Warren Glasgow, L. L.

McKinley, Charles Jjeftwich.and Robert Ayres-. i He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Fred A. Cooper, Whiteford, and four brothers and four sisters. They are: Herbert, Warren and Albert Cooper, Whiteford, and John Cooper.

Interment will be in Mt. Nebo cemetery. Allen P. Crumling, HaElam Native, Dies Hallam Alien P. Crumling, a native of this place, died Friday at his home, 154 Norman street, Barberton, O.

He was 56 years old. A son of the late Lemuel Crumling, he leaves his wife, Mrs. Gwendolyn Crumling; a daughter, Joan; his mother, Mrs. Alice Crumling, Hallam; a brother, Victor Crumling, Miami, and three sisters, Mis Orpha C. Crumling, Miami, and Mrs.

Lawrence Reaver and Mrs. W. M. Sell), both of Hallam. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.

McElwain, Fawn Grove RD. She was 60. Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Robert Paul A. and Bruce W. McElwain, all of Fawn Grove RD; a grandson, Robert G.

McElwain, Fawn Grove RD; a brother. Clarence Manifold, Stewartstown, and two sisters, Mrs. Helen McConkey, Cardiff, and Mrs. Mae Gemmill, Stewartstown. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock (DST) this afternoon from the home of Mr.

and Mrs. Robert M. Elwain, Fawn Grove RD. Rev. Ira Smith, pastor of Center Presbyterian church, New Park, will officiate and interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining that church.
