April 6, 19SO 3C Formulas for fun ByBETH STONE Copyright Beth Stone, eaSeu Mr. and Mrs. Earl H. Veasey oPRichardson announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Vickie, to Roger Glenn Coker, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Roy Glenn Coker, Rt. 4, Paris. Tlie couple will be married May 10 in Dallas. Miss Veasey will be a senior at East Texas State University this fall. Her fiance will be a May graduate of ETSU.

The couple will live in Carrollton where Mr. Coker will be employed at Mostek. (Copyright Beth Stone, 1980) 3 have had many requests for ideas of entertaining infants who are old enough to be bored, but too young to do anything interesting. Prom you readers we have some good ideas: Dear Beth, woven or plastic bicycle basket and attach with ties on car seat or stroller. Fill this with toys which baby sees only when riding so they're new each time.

Cfiear Reader: some of these toys onto the basket with cord elastic so that when they drop, baby can "fish" them back up himself. Be sure the elastic is not long enough for baby to become tangled in it.Use toys in this way on high chair too. QgarBeth, MOTHER of eleven children, grandmother of 19, and great grandmother of 5 plus 2 more in 1980, I've entertained at'lot of babies. I've a great idea for the very young ones. Use a long shoe string with a good tip on it.

Tie a smalt spool on one end. Let baby string other empty spools on for necklace or just a play thing. In my early days we never beard of "non-toxic" paint, so I used the spools "as was." Now-a-days the spools can be painted in different colors. If you don't have a shoe string use a small cord and stiff starch one end of it. DEAR READER, Very large macaroni will also work if you don't have spools.

We appreciate ideas from great grandmothers. We young mothers can really benefit from ideas you used in the days before TV and commercial toys. I hope all my senior citizen readers will send in ideas from those days. You had to be much more inventive of entertainment than we are today. Please think back to those days and share with us your favorite ways of handling children.

Thank you so much. Another great grandmother wrote that she tied a red strip of fabric to the wheel of her sewing machine and propped baby where he could watch the red "flag fly" as she sewed. It kept him happy for quite awhile. We could adapt this idea to many modern household machines, or simply place a fan in baby's sight (but NOT within his reach) and attach ribbons to it, near your work area. You can talk to baby as you work.

The comfort of being near you and having something colored to watch will provide many happy hours. Dear Beth, For pacifier babies place a napkin or cloth diaper through the loop of the handle. This is safer than tying the pacifier oh a ribbon around baby's neck. When pacifier is dropped it usually lands in baby's lap so he can learn to put it back by himself. When it does hit the floor it lands on top of the cloth and remains clean.

And you always have a burp cloth or spare diaper! WRITE TO Beth Stone, FORMULAS FOR FUN, P. O. Box 1061, Paris, Texas 75460. For personal answers send self-addressed, stamped envelope. We reserve the right to edit letters and they become the property of Beth Stone.
