Yowler the Bobcat is a hunter, lie must hunt, find, and catch all his food. Of course this means that he has to roam about a great deal. He must do a lot of walking.

He does most of his hunting at night. Sometimes he covers long distances before he finds a meal. In At last he came to Laughing Brook. hard times he may travel all night and not get a mouthful to eat. When he has to go very far and hunt all night, he does not always return home to sleep.

He crawls under a pile of brush, or into a hollow log, sometimes even into a big hollow tree, or into a cave if he happens to be near one, and there sleeps through the day. Dislikes Water In one thing Yowler is a true cat, his dislike of water. He doesn't like wet feet. That is, he doesn't like to wade in water, sometimes he will go a long way to get around a small pool that he might easily have waded across. On this night, Yowler had bad luck.

He had hunted and hunted without catching even a mouse. He was feeling tired, and very much out of sorts. At last he came to Laughing Brook. He stopped on the bank. He wanted to go on, but right there Laughing Brook was too wide for him to jump across, asd he didn't want to wet his feet.

He could have waded across, and he knew it. As a matter of fact, had it been too deep for him to wade he could have crossed it by swimming. He can swim. If he should be forced to swim he could do it very well. He has been known to swim of his own accord, but there must have, been a very Dot Puzzle 3 3' 0 4 Jk 5 00 4l 3b 3 '41 i 43 44 45 4 4fc 4 .50 HIS FAVORITE PICTURE Frank loves to look at his picture book.

He just doesn't like water. "Probably I will have better hunting on the other side," he thought looking across. "I certainly couldn't have any. worse hunting." Touches Water He reached out and touched the water with one Then he shook it. "I hate the said he.

"I hate Laughing Brook. It is always getting in my way." He quite forgot how often he had found a fish, a turtle, or a frog, along Laughing Brook. Just then he hated Laughing Brook, or thought he did. Jolly, round, bright Mr. Sun' would soon be climbing up in the blue, blue sky.

If Yowler was to have a dinner before going to sleep for the day, he would haye to get it very soon. He had a strong feeling that he could get that dinner on the other side of Laughing Brook. He looked up the brook to see if there was any place where he could cross without wetting his feet. He couldn't see one. He looked down Laughing Brook.

There was no dry crossing in sight. "I'll just go up the brook, and look for an old log or treetrunk on which I can cross," thought Yowler. He started up along the bank. He came to a place where Laughing Brook was narrower. Could he jump it? He was tempted to try.

Then he decided not to. He didn't want to get wet. So, he walked and he walked, growing more tired and more hungry. And all the time he could have been on the other side, just by wading. (Copyright.
