Clyde E. Croom, Rodney Warner and wife, Carol, William Warner and wife, Donna, all of Raleigh, and Macon Whiteley of TX; nieces, Marie Ashburn and husband, Dr. Glen Ashburn of Westminster, MD, Patricia Rhodes and husband, Dr. Joe Rhodes of Weaverville, Ruth Lynn Whiteley, Mary Whitely Fitzwater, Alice Whiteley Wiese, all of Texas; a host of other nieces and nephews that are scattered throughout the nation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Saunders Croom; sisters, Vivian Mae Croom, and Ruth Marion Croom; brother, Clyde W.

KNIGHTDALE Milton Macon Croom, 98, COMDR, USN of 5200 Knightdale-Eagle Rock Road, died Saturday, November 29, 2008, at Wake Med due to pneumonia. For several years he had suffered from Parkinson's Disease. Milton was born in Wake County on August 27, 1910 the older son of the late Henry Marion Croom and Mary Williams Croom. He graduated from Wendell High School in 1928, and received a BS in chemical engineering from NC State University in 1932. Early in 1942, he applied for a commission in the US Navy and was ordered to active duty in May 1942.

At the end of WWII, he requested release, and worked for the Bureau of Mines and NC Department of Commerce. During the Korean War he requested return to active dutv. He received a National Defense Medal for each tour. Upon release from active duty, he returned to employment with the NC Department of Commerce, where he became interested in a small paint production. He resigned from the Department of Commerce and devoted fuli time to his paint business.

He is best known as president of Cal-Tone Paints, Inc. He built a plant on Highway 64 East of Raleigh and at one time operated nine outlet stores in the state. Health problems prompted his retirement in 1998. Milton was a member of Triangle Chapter of Navy League, serving as president at one point, The American Legion Post 1, Retired Officers Association, where he also served as president at one time, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and AM Vets. Milton received a certificate of appreciation from hospitalized veterans for contributions.

He was an active republi- LAURINBURG John H. Moore passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2008 in Laurinburg, NC. Born in Boiling Springs, NC, on June 7, 1916, he was the son of the late O.L. and Sue Parker Moore. He moved with his family, 29, John H.

Moore at an early age, to Laurinburg, when his father became the editor of The Laurinburg Exchange. He graduated from Laurinburg High School and Presbyterian Junior College (now St. Andrews Presbyterian College). He attended Wake Forest College, before joining the Navy to serve during World War II. After graduation from OCS at Columbia University, he was commissioned to serve on the USS San Jacinto.

His naval service was of particular pride to him, as he recounted stories, throughout his life, of his "sea" adventures. He truly loved his country and believed in all of the freedoms our forefathers gifted to us. Following the War, he returned to Laurinburg, where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Lindsay. They married in June 1946, and together they raised three daughters. He began his life-long love of journalism at The Laurinburg Exchange, writing stories that covered all aspects of the city and county.

After his father's death, he wrote the popular Odds and Ends column for years, as well as served as the paper's editor and publisher During this time, he was named Tar Heel of the Week by the Raleigh News and Observer and was active in the NC Press Association. 210700 enjoyed sharing these stories with history-lovers, family and friends, especially the coffee group at Captain Larry's. He will be remembered for challenging his community through his writing, believing that a strong community needs a strong newspaper to prosper. His belief that so many of our lesser fortunate citizens can be helped immensely by our caring, also, was a life-long trait. Above all, the love he had for his God and his church was of paramount importance to him, as he served in the First Baptist Church for over 80 years. Predeceased by his wife of 60 years.

He is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Karen and Clifford Burton, of Wilmington, Anne and Scott tt Miller and Susan and Charles Wentz, of Laurinburg; six grandchildren, Mary Lauren Burton, Scottie, Holland and John Miller, Lindsay Caulder and husband, John, and Charlie Wentz and wife, April; two great-granddaughters, Carolyn Caulder and Katelyn Wentz; and sister, Mary Sue Silsand, of Boiling Springs. A service to celebrate John's life will be held at the First Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 2, at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends afterwards in the church fellowship hall. "Cecil" Brogden, 67, of Farm Wind Road, was promoted to glory on Saturday, November 29, 2008.

Born in Goldsboro, NC, he was the husband of Elma Blackwell Brogden and the son of the late, Curtis Ellie Brogden and Beulah Best Brogden. Major Brogden was ordained and commissioned as an officer in The Salvation Army in 1962 as a "Soldier of which he truly was until the day of his death. He was also a member of the Rotary Club. In addition to his wife, also surviving are two sons, Steven E. Brogden, of Greer and Michael W.

Brogden and wife, Brandi, also of Greer; daughter, Pamela Lynn Morgan and husband, Dr. Todd Morgan, of Gaffney; eight grandchildren, Luke Morgan, Anna Morgan, Caroline Morgan, Kenny Brogden, Brandon Brogden, Charley Brogden, Maddox Brogden and Shelby Brogden. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Grassy Pond Baptist Church. Funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m.

CARY Alan James Roos, 77, died November 29, 2008. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, April 9, 1931. Alan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie; sons, Alan J. Roos, and John T. Roos and wife, Tracey; daughter, Sue Tracey and husband, Steve; six grandchildren, Nick, Zack, and Carly Roos, and Emily, Michael, and David Tracey; two brothers; and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Roos; and two brothers. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 804 High House Cary. The burial will be in Pittsburgh, PA. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, at Rose and Graham Funeral Home Chapel, Coats. Officiating will be the Rev. Terry Hunt and Dr. Tommy Smith. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier.

Mrs. Weaver was born on April 5, 1925 in Harnett County to the late George E. and Lillar Ryals Allen. She was plant manager for Terry Hill Industries for 25 years, and was a member of the Coats United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mack Weaver, and a son, Larry Mack Weaver.

Surviving are children and spouses, Jerry W. Weaver, Sr. and wife, Sandy of Coats, Doris Allred and husband, Richard of Apex, and Betsy Weaver and husband, Sean Hobbs of Raleigh; daughter-in-law, Sharon Weaver of Coats; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one The family wishes to say a special thank you to Alice Faye Weaver and J.D. Byrd. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at Rose and Graham Funeral home, Coats from a.m., prior to the service.

He was born in Franklin County, son of the late Clare Lee Green Stallings and Minow Stallings. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Branson Wiggins. Mr. Stallings was a retired Cattle Farmer, and a heavy equipment operator and owner of A Stallings and Sons Grading Co. The funeral service will be held 11 o'clock, Tuesday morning, December 2, 2008, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.

The burial will follow at Youngsville Cemetery. Mr. Stallings is survived by his wife, Margaret Stallings; a daughter, Clara Stallings of Youngsville; sons, Bob Stallings and wife, Betty of Rocky Ford, Al Stallings and wife, Deborah of Youngsville; grandchildren, Justin and Jared Wiggins, Anya Stallings, Mark, E.A. and J.R. Stallings; great grandchildren, Karsen and Deacon Garrett.
