"We are a running team. We want to be able to move, cut and block. Earlier Thursday Oklahoma City University and Texas advanced to the consolation finals, with wins over Texas Christian and Seattle respectively. They will play for the consolation championship tomorrow afternoon. The early margin was extended to 21 7 before the Shockers, the nation'! 8th ranked team, began to rally. Wichita closed the gap to 35 29 at halftime.

The Shockers came back strong in the second half, forcing Bowling Green into ball handling errors with a full court press. Wichita never took the lead but closed' the gap to one point near the end. Houston played a delihcr. ate ball control game from the outset and led 28 24 at halftime, pulling away from a 24 23 deficit in the last two minutes. Texas A took charge in the second half and handed frigid shooting Seattle a 71 54 defeat in the consolation sera lfinals.

Regents Meet A University of Nebraska Regents meeting is scheduled Jan.

6 and Dye is expected to offer his recommendations at that time. Front running candidates at this point appear to be Bob Devaney of Wyoming, Ray Nagel of Utah and John Ralston of Utah State. All have met with Dye and all have had whining success as head coaches, the latter point having been stressed as a prerequisite by NU officials and Dye. While Ralston has indicated he's interested in the job and Nagel while appearing to bow out last week can still be considered a potential condidate, Devaney may have the inside track. In Lincoln Thursday he confirmed he had met with Dye in Lincoln, JK.

'us' 7 Green Bay, Wis. WV The thermometer shuddered at 10 below zero Thursday while the frostbitten Green Bay Packers hustled through a one hour workout on a frozen practice field for Sunday's National Football League ti tle game with the New York Giants. Defensive halfback Jesse Whittenton and defensive end Bill Quinlan were in the hospital (lucky boys!) trying to shake off heavy colds or a touch of the flu. Fullback Jim Taylor still had a badly bruised back, a souvenir of the Los Angeles game, and safety man John Symank was bothered by a chest injury. 15 Below The temperature in "Title Town U.S.A.," hit 15 below earlier in the day and more of the same was scheduled for Thursday night.

However, some moderation was predicted for the weekend. It might even get up to 20. Those "Title Town" signs were pasted in every store window in the downtown area of this city of about 65,000 residents. A radio station burst forth every few minutes with a "cheer for a champion," which amounts to a thumbnail sketch of one of the 36 Packer heroes. The lumberjack band is preparing for a gala Sunday with special arrangements to keep the brass section from freezing.

If the Packers win, this friendly city on Green Bay's shore is poised to break loose with a New Year's Eve celebration that will make Pittsburgh's 1960 World Series binge look as tame as the ice cream social in a village park. Seats Left Despite the 1,698 stock holders who hold the 4,731 shares in this non profit community corporation, some tickets still were available. About 1,500 of the temporary bleacher seats still could be had. All tickets in the park carry a $10 price tag. (UPI) Tip py Dye, the new athletic di rector at the University of Nebraska, said Thursday candidates remain in the run ning to succeed Bill Jennings as head football coach. Dye said the only football coaches being seriously con sidered for the Nebraska post are Bob Devaney of Wyom ing, Ray Nagel of Utah and John Ralston of Utah State. uevaney, wno nas ouut a 34 10 5 record in 5 years at Wyoming, said he 'prob ably" would accept coaching job at Nebraska if Dye offered it to him. Dye said Negel and Ralston have not committed themselves. "We're going to have to make a decision soon, that's for sure," Dye said.

"We hope to have it settled by the first week in January." "I am still interested in the Nebraska job," Devaney told the Associated Press in Laramie, following his return from Lincoln. "I think the Nebraska job presents a real challenge and it would be a good opportunity." However, Devaney stressed there was nothing definite about the possibility of him landing the NU job, and said any announcement along that line would have to come from Nebraska authorities. Not Definite Reporting that he talked "rather hurriedly and in gen eralities" with Dye about the Nebraska job, Devaney told the AP he had received no definite offer during the Lin coin session. 'I have no future plans to meet with him again," the Wyoming coach said. During Devaney's 5 seasons at Wyoming, the Cowboys have won 35, lost 10 and tied 5 games.

The Idea Man When sports writers spot Tom Walsh bouncing into their offices, cane a clicking, they know the Harlem Globetrotters can't be far behind.

Au 13 case Walsh was in Lincoln this week, toe Trotters will be at Pershing Auditorium next Wednesday night. The machine gun tongued little Irishman demonstrated once again that he has no peer in the tub thumping business. Rattling off compliments to the city, the people and sportswriters, Brother Walsh who has managed and promoted sports events for a 100 years or so (maybe not quite that long) supplied the usual information about Abe Saperstein's fabulous Globetrotters. And he supplied one example which proves he's got a sharp eye for promoting. When the subject of boxing came up, Tom's eyes lit up and with a voice reverent, yet tinged with excitement he said: "Oh, would I love to have a Russian heavyweight who could fight Glory be to God, I'd have millions of peo pie in this country paying to see him get knocked out." Yessir, the Trotters and Tom make a good combo.
