Allen OCTOBER 15, 1923 NOVEMBER 8, 2006 RALEIGH Naomi Fulghum Allen, 83, of 1050-103 Washington Street, died peacefully at home on Wednesday. Her Smile lit the room and her heart warmed the world, and she will be deeply missed by her family and wide circle of friends.

Her grace and spirit inspired everyone around her to love more greatly, give more freely and live more fully. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Milner Memorial Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4-5 p.m.

Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. Naomi was a lifelong learner who was keenly interested in others and in the world around her. She maintained an active correspondence with dozens of friends and family members who sent well wishes and thinking-of-you cards, and she particularly delighted in receiving family photos. She was the owner of Eldercare Convalescent Service for 35 years, and was named "Woman of the Year" by the American Business Women's Association. She served on many committees of the Orange and New 1 Hope Presbytery, the Presbyterian Urban Council of Raleigh, was past Chair of the Board of Capital Towers, and was a long-time elder of Milner Memorial Presbyterian Church.

She also was active in the National Association of Women Business Owners for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her devoted and 1 loving husband of nearly 39 years, James Doub "Crow" Allen, who died on October 20, 2006. She is survived by daughters, Dorothy Beamon McLeod of Garner, Mary Anne Beamon Grimes of Raleigh; son, Donald Ralph Beamon of Bunnlevel; sisters, Margie Letchworth, Dora Lee and Ann Morris of Raleigh; special sisters, Theresa Hinton Dodds of Chapel Hill, Billie Frances Hinton of Raleigh, Athalene Pittman of Fremont; grandchildren, Tony and Robyn McLeod, Angie and Matt Harrison, Toby and Joseph Beamon and Chris Grimes; great-grandchildren, Seth and Sydney McLeod and Ashlyn and Ryan Harrison, and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the her care team from Hospice of Wake County. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her stepmother, Margaret Fulghum; sisters, Mary Woodard Watson and Earlene Hinson.

Bayard R. Sellars STEM Bayard R. Sellars, died November 7, 2006, of heart failure.

He was born October 11, 1951, in Los Angeles, CA, son of Margaret Jacobson and Bayard Bellamy Sellars, and grew up in Fort Lauderdale, FL. After attending Duke University, he lived in Denver, CO, Durham, NC, and Arlington, VA. He has lived and worked in the Triangle area for more than fifteen years. He was a computer engineer at GlaxoSmithKline. He had a unique sense of humor that will be missed.

Surviving are his son, Ben Sellars of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Lisa Sellars of Chevy Chase, MD; and sister, Tommyanne Carlson of Geneva, NY. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at Angle Amphitheater in Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Durham, NC. Darlene Clark Jones JUNE 30, 1962 NOVEMBER 10, 2006 RALEIGH Darlene Clark Jones, 44, died Friday. Funeral services will be Sunday, 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist, 7900 Ten-Ten Road, Raleigh. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Fuquay-Varina. Surviving are: husband, Michael Jones; parents, Charlie and Frances Clark of Raleigh; mother and fatherin- law Buck and Becky Jones of Raleigh; son, Jonathon Jones; sister, Deborah Rice and husband, Ken of Colorado; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Barbara Jones of Raleigh; and two nieces; and one nephew.

All announcements become Dorothy Blackmon Lee Curtis FOUR OAKS Dorothy Blackmon Lee Curtis died on November 9, 2006 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Four Oaks NC on April 8, 1935 to Lawrence Blackmon and Kittie Thompson Blackmon.

She graduated from Four Oaks public schools and Campbell College. Dot was employed at The News and Observer Publishing Company as an accounting manager from 1959 until 1991. She is survived by her husband, Jack Curtis of Smithfield; her sisters, Flonnie Barbour and Senda Adams and her brother, Bobby Blackmon, all of Four Oaks. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews Dot was predeceased by her first husband, William R. Lee, her brother Billy Lawrence Blackmon and her sister, Bonnie Blackmon Snipes.

Dot was known at the by managers and peers for her dedication and hard work. She leaves behind many friends who knew her for her compassion, loyalty, tenacity, wit and love of Elvis and the Gaithers. Dot loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with her husband Jack and friends. She also enjoyed her time with her greatgreat nephew, Walker Lee Narron and great-great nieces, Olivia Todd Narron and Taylor Nicole Thornton. She was a caretaker for her family and friends alike and always there for support or to lend a shoulder.

WINSTON-SALEM Egbert Lawrence Davis, 95, of WinstonSalem, NC, died on November 10, 2006. He was born on July 23, 1911, in Yadkin County, North Carolina. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Layfield Davis, of Raleigh, who died in 1985, by sister Julia Davis Pollard and his brother Thomas Henry Davis. He is survived by his four children, E.

Lawrence Davis, III, and wife Sandra of Raleigh, Linwood L. Davis and wife Martha of WinstonSalem, Anne D. Hummel and husband Sam of Greensboro, and Patricia D. Duke and husband Rusty of Greenville, NC, fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Pauline D.

Perry of Winston-Salem. Mr. Davis graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1929 and received a Bachelor's degree in mathematics Wake Forest College in 1933. He studied economics in graduate school at Princeton University for a year before joining R.J.

Reynolds Tobacco Company as a salesman. In 1937 he joined Atlas Supply Company and was its president until his retirement in 1974. He was president of the Southern Wholesalers Association and of the American Institute of Supply Associations, and he was on the Board of the American Supply Association. He served on the boards of Piedmont Aviation, and Security Life and Trust Company (later Integon). He was on the local board of Wachovia Bank and Trust Company, N.A.

An active member of First Baptist Church, he was chairman of the Deacons and served in a number of other capacities. A loyal Wake Forest alumnus, he was Chairman of the Trustees, a Lifetime Trustee and president of the Alumni Association. He received the University's Distinguished Alumnus Award and its Medallion of Merit. He was Chairman of the Baptist Hospital Board of Trustees. He established the Davis Memorial Chapel at the hospital as a gift in honor of his parents.

Inspired by the late Robert Lee Humber, he worked with Dr. Humber in establishing and promoting the North Carolina Museum of Art, serving as a Trustee. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the home. A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

Harry Morgan Chesson, Jr. JAMESVILLE Mr. Harry Morgan Chesson, 52, of Grey Farm Road, Jamesville, died Friday, November 10, 2006 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 8, 1954 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Harry M. Chesson, Sr.

and Catherine Hollowell Chesson who survives. Mr. Chesson was co-owner of True Value Home Supply and member of Plymouth Church of Christ. He was past master of Perseverance Lodge No. 59, member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner.

He was former fire chief of Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department and former president of Albemarle Hunting Club. A loving husband, father, grandfather and son his family includes his wife, Bonnie Strader Chesson of Jamesville; mother, Catherine Hollowell Chesson of Plymouth; daughters, Karl C. Hardison and husband, Brian of Jamesville and Daina C. Raulerson and husband, Philip of Jamesville; grandchildren, Hannah Hardison and Dylan Hardison. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel Baffari; and sister, Phyllis Skane.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Matea San Giovanni Baffaro; daughter, Josette Beller and husband, Rick; grandchildren, Kristen, David Lauren, Joseph, Christopher, and Anna Beller. He was born in Rye, New York on July 26, 1918. He graduated from School and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY as an electrical engineer. During WWII, he was a second lieutenant in the Army Air Force, a navigator on a B-17 in the 8th Air Force, 398th Bomb Group.

Louis was employed by IBM and, with his family, moved to Raleigh in 1968 then retired in 1984. He was an active member of St. Raphael Church Knights of Columbus 4th degree, IBM Retirees Club, charter member of T.I.A.H.A., 55 Plus Club, treasurer of N.C. 8th Air Force Historical Society and a retired member of the board of directors of Coastal Federal Credit Union. A visitation will take place at Renaissance Funeral Home on Sunday from p.m.

Lucy Pauline Murphy DAVIS Lucy Pauline Murphy, 60, of Davis, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, November 10, 2006, with her family by her side at Carteret General Hospital.

Pauline was a member of Davis Free Will Baptist Church. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Davis Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in the Willis Family Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin Earl Murphy of Davis; two daughters, Pamela Lewis and husband, Tommy of Davis and Paula Harris and husband, Bubba of Atlantic; a sister, Gale May and husband, Ricky of Louisburg; three brothers, Ronnie Warren of North River, Tony Warren and wife, Rhoda of Swansboro and Gary Warren and wife, Sarah of Gloucester; granddaughters, Kelsey Richards, Olivia Lewis and Brianna Lewis; a step grandson, Adam Harris; and special aunt, Mary Warren. Pauline Ray Whitaker YOUNGSVILLE Pauline Ray Whitaker, 89, of 5901 US HWY 401 South, died Thursday, November 9, 2006 at Hillside Nursing Center. Mrs. Whitaker was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Ivie Privette Ray and Fred Ray.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Z. Whitaker, her son, W. Z. Whitaker, brothers, Ervin Ray, Grady Ray and Carl Ray; and by her sisters, Ruth Oakley and Eleanor Ray.

Mrs. Whitaker was a homemaker, a member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church, a loving mother, wife, sister and friend. She will always be remembered as a lady who dearly loved her family, and will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday morning, November 11, 2006 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral with Rev. Dr.

Conway Hester Haswell RALEIGH Conway Hester Haswell, 78, one of Raleigh's finest, retired Raleigh police captain and first director of Safety Security for the Wake County Public Schools, died on Thursday, November 9, 2006. Captain Haswell retired from the Raleigh Police Department after 31 years in March of 1981, and from the Raleigh Wake County Public Schools after 10 years in May of 1991. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mrs.

Lois Rose Haswell; daughter, Susan Haswell Reese and husband, Charles Michael Reese; daughter, Bonnie Haswell Little and husband, Charles Ollin Little; son, David Brian Haswell and wife, Lambeth Casey Haswell; grandchildren, Addison Elizabeth Reese, Bailey Morgan Reese, Benjamin David Haswell, Hannah Love Little and Connor McLean Little. He was always a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and was always in the service of his community. He was a dedicated police officer. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Jesse Arrington Haswell and Myrtle Hester Haswell. He graduated from Knightdale High School, the Raleigh Police Training School, and the Southern Police Institute, University of Louisville, KY.

He attended N.C. State University, the Institute of Government at Chapel Hill, Florida State University, University of Georgia, Northwestern Traffic Institute, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and attended courses at Fort McClelland, AL. Captain Haswell served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Millbrook Lodge He was a longtime member of St. Marks United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board and on the Board of Trustees, and served as President of the Walter Anderson Sunday School Class and Chief of an Ushering Committee.

He was Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Wake County Medical Emergency Services, President of the Quarter Century Club, City of Raleigh, Board of Directors of the Raleigh Police Club and Liaison Officer for the Auxiliary Police Officers, and Police Liaison for the Police Chaplain. He was appointed by Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. to the Governor's Highway Safety Commission on October 30, 1980, President of the N.C. Chapter of the Southern Police Institute Alumni Association, Representative for the Bicentennial Celebration, First Vice President of the Raleigh Civitan Club, Director of Raleigh Boys Club, Director of the Wake County Red Cross, Director of the Sanderson High School Athletic Club, Director of the Wake County Youth for Christ Organization, President of the Lewis H.

Powell PTA, Coach of Raleigh Little Janice Gray Faircloth FAYETTEVILLE Janice Gray Faircloth, 65, of 3208 Graysville Lane, Fayetteville, went to be with the Lord Thursday, November 9, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Faircloth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her faith in Jesus Christ was strong and was devoted to being a prayer warrior. She had been a faithful member of Fayetteville Community Church for more than 20 years where she loved to greet visitors and members.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 12, at Fayetteville Community Church with the Rev. Ken Pritchard officiating. Burial will be in Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2-3 p.m.

League Baseball Team, Committee Chairman for the Governor's Inaugural Parade, Committee for the Advanced Planning for President and Vice President, Instructor in Supervisory Practices for the North Carolina Community Colleges, and Personal Escort for the Reverend Billy Graham for the Carter Stadium Crusade, Police Liaison with St. Augustine College and on the Board of the Mid-State Safety Council, and the Wake County Emergency Management Committee, member of the Raleigh Sports Club, President of the Young at Hearts Club. During his police career, he was Director of the School Patrol, Director of the Traffic Violations Bureau, Director of Training and Personnel and Director of the Police Academy, and Commander of the Selective Police Unit known as the SWAT team, a line Captain and Staff Captain.

He was Patrolman of the Month, Patrolman of the Year, had several Police commendations, two outstanding Citizenship Awards by the Raleigh Civitan Club, Governor's Appreciation Award, and appointed by Governor Hunt to the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest award given by the state. He joined the Travelers Protective Association of America in May of 1977, was a 25 club member, Post Safety Chairman, Post President, State Director, State President and National Director. In 1981, he assumed a position with the Wake County Public Schools as its first director of Security Safety. He implemented the security systems for the schools and identification tags for every Wake County employee and every student in the schools. He was an excellent golfer, bowler, played basketball, baseball and softball in high school and his police career where he was always outstanding.

He was also a member of the Raleigh Police Pistol Team and Manager of the Raleigh Police Softball Team. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Harold D. Haswell, Jesse Lee Haswell, and Kenneth P. Haswell. Captain Haswell spent his life in the safety and protection of all citizens in the City of Raleigh and Wake County.

He was dedicated to the welfare of others. After their retirements, he and Mrs. Haswell traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas. The family would like to express their deep appreciation Hospice of Wake County and special thanks to Tairu Jallow, Millicent Wilson and Stella Kingati. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m.

on Sunday, November 12, 2006 at Saint Mark's United Methodist Church, 4801 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, Reverends Rhonda Mauer and Ben Williams will officiate. Tributes may be made to the family at www.brownwynne.com John C. Lamm NASHVILLE John C. Lamm, 82, died Friday, November 10, 2006. He was born December 20, 1923 in Nash County, son of the late Nero Lee Lamm and Minnie Dew Lamm. He was predeceased by his brothers, J.W.

Lamm and Marshall Lamm, sister, Gladys L. Edwards. Mr. Lamm served in the U.S. Army during World War II seeing active duty in the European Theater with the U.S.

94th Army Division under General George S. Patton. Mr. Lamm was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Momeyer Ruritan Club and American Legion Post 91 in Spring Hope. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Myrtle Rose Lamm; sons, John Anthony "Tony" Lamm and wife, Mary Louise of Columbia, SC, Dwight C.
